Suggestions needed for names that are a bit like these...

I need helpful suggestions please - I love the following but they have been vetoed by DH or care already being used by close friends. What are other names in a similar vein? Or to put it another way, if you like the names I like, what other names do you like that I might also like?

Leo
Joel
Nathaniel (Nate)
Gabriel (Gabe)
Noah
Jude
Finlay
Jake
Xavier (tho can't decide if this one is a bit poncey...)

Thank you!

Coincidentally, I had 5 of these names vetoed by my DH too! Men are much pickier about names for boys I think. Mine pretty much only wants John. He thinks it's safe. He keeps talking about not "taking any risks"

LaRagazzaInglese · 02/02/2010 19:54

Sebastian (Seb)
Callum
Caleb
Benedict (Ben)
Seth
Lucas
Finn
Raphael
Joshua
Isaac (Zac)
Gene
Tadhg (pron. Tad)

I thought Tadgh was pronounced like the first syllable of "Tiger", i.e. "Tieg?

Blanchet · 02/02/2010 19:59

Tadhg, rather

Adam

Thisisntover - ha, your DH really isn't taking ANY risks is he? Though Johnny is a really cool name...

Thanks for the suggestions, LaRagazzaInglese, I love Caleb and Benedict but worried that everyone would assume I named the baby after Kings of Leon with Caleb, and Ben is an ex's name so can't have that...he's vain enough as it is. Funnily enough DS1 is Luca so we must share similar taste.

Lockets, I love Nico!! Def going on my list...

I also like Asher - it's unusual without being too far out there. Does it sound a bit American though? Maybe I'm thinking of Ashton Kutcher...

Blanchet you're right, that's the correct original way, (which i prefer) but I went to school with a Tadhg pron. Tad (his choice from young age) just thought i'd suggest it.

Love Saul and Cassius too

I like Gabriel (but hate Gabe) and Noah. Jude is okay. I don't like Finlay and think Xavier is beyond poncey (and I usually quite like poncey names eg: love Rupert).

Benedict is yummy. Don't like Caleb at all.

I also like Sebastian (but hate Seb) and love Laurence. Barnaby is lovely, as is Lucas. I am quite fond of Vincent, Isaac and Oscar too and feel that Hector, Atticus, David and Horace are all due a bit of a revival.

I am very with you on your list. Others I like:

Linus
Nathan

pointydog · 02/02/2010 20:35

Max

janeite · 02/02/2010 20:37

Max is good.

I love your list, especially Gabriel and Finlay!

How about..

Frederick
George
Edward
Jaspar
Barnaby
Caspar
Arlo
Milo
Isaac
Victor

AngryPixie · 02/02/2010 21:21

Love your list, particularly Noah, Jude & Finn. I would add;

Seth
Isaac
Ted

I was warned off Benedict from a friend, who I'd always known as Ben, told me about teenaged hell being called 'Bendy Dick'

Blanchet · 03/02/2010 09:43

to be honest, I don't blame him, LaRagazzaInglese; I'd probably end up doing the same "Damnit, just call me Tad and be done with it!"
