Help me find a girl's name that goes with Ruben......

...who will be DD's big brother. My faves are Rosa and Una, but does it sound funny to either to have names starting with the same letter or both having the oo sound? Ruben and Julia is swimming round in my head for some reason, but I don't know if I'm brave enough for Julia, I love the sound of it, but is it a bit middle aged and dull in it's association? DH is obsessed with Eva, but I'm obsessed about it becoming too popular so I'd be really interested in whether you think it is.

So,

Ruben and Rosa
Ruben and Una
Ruben and Julia (or poss Julietta)
Ruben and Eva
or Ruben and ......

Which way should I go?

I know a Reuben with a sister called Esme, and I think they go really nicely together.

Of your options, I would go along with your DH and say Eva.

[secretly wanted Reuben for DS2 but knew I didn't stand a chance of getting DH to agree, so very jealous!]

Thanks for your replies. Ruben and Esme sounds good, but Esme isn't my cup of tea. Sleepy, I had to really work on DH to get him to agree to Ruben but now he loves it.
Will you dish and tell me your dd's name Rasputin?

I know a Reuben whose sister is Grace, which I love and it goes really well, the only problem being if she doesn't turn out to be particularly graceful

Holly

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 30/01/2010 21:24

Billy, so you'll have Billy Ruben

RubiMama · 30/01/2010 21:32

Ooh, I never would have guessed! That's really sweet and unusual, ISWYM about it being in the Julia era. But I'm not sure I could go with a name where I didn't like the abbreviations. Our Ruben (24mo) gets called Rubi alot and he calls himself 'oobi' (which I love ). Which reminds me, one of the the reasons why I like Julia is the way DH says it in his foreign accent, he it makes it sound more exotic and Italian, like Guilia... (in need of a swooning emoticon!)

Dinah?
Tabitha?

vivivi · 30/01/2010 21:56

Maisie

Esmee · 30/01/2010 21:56

I like Ruben and Eva together.

Here's some other ideas:

Ruben and Juliet
Ruben and Clara
Ruben and Jemima
Ruben and Sylvie

HalcyonDaze · 30/01/2010 22:53

From your list I like Ruben and Eva (would prefer Ruben and Eve tbh but that's jmo).

Julia sounds a bit weak next to Ruben but Juliet is fabulous! It has the same timeless quality as Ruben.

Una and Rosa don't sit well with Ruben imo so I would discount those, altho Rose would be better and quite refreshing as a fn rather than as a default mn.

How about...Miriam, Esther, Eliza, Helena, Iris, Lydia, Charis, Susannah, Freya, Tamara, Lois?

mrsruffallo · 30/01/2010 22:57

Ruben and Polly

cece · 30/01/2010 23:40

I like all of the names on your list.

Una was on our list for DC3! Top of the list was Verity or how about Juliana?

cityangel · 31/01/2010 00:13

What about: Helen, Evelyn, Elin, Jocelyn...

RubiMama · 31/01/2010 08:29

Thankyou! Some lovely ideas. I like Polly, will try it out on DH. Halcyon I think you're right about Juliet over Julia but Greek DH is used to girl's names ending in 'a' and I think they just don't feel right to him unless they do. So Julia he loves, but Julietta is the compromise I'm trying to worm out of him.
Cece Glad you like Una, but not many people seem to, and while I don't think that bothers me so much I don't want DD to not like her nam either! Also liking Juliana, but maybe sounds a bit weak like Julia?

My Rebecca (always known as Becky) was going to have a brother called Reuben - but she turned out to be a girl instead.

breadboard · 31/01/2010 18:34

Una is a gorgeous name and it is sooooo underused.
Reuben an Una sound fantastic together

diddl · 01/02/2010 09:03

I like Julia best from your list.

Miriam?

SoupDragon · 01/02/2010 09:07

So, you like Julia, your DH loves Julia...? What is the problem. I don't think it's a name you have to be "brave" for.

cece · 01/02/2010 09:52

I also don't understand why you have to be brave for Julia either. A lovely name which works well for child and adult.

RubiMama · 01/02/2010 16:03

The problem is have have been thinking about this for so long I can't even tell what I like anymore, I think I need a thinking about babynames break! I was thinking Julia sounded a bit middle aged...Anyway, thanks all for your feedback
