Hello all. Advice needed on our latest name choice - Cécile.
We really want a French name to keep her French identity as she grows up in UK. I am English, papa is French! However we would like a name that can not be pronounced in different ways such as Anais.
Our latest choice is Cécile Rose. Too old fashioned?

Cécile is very sweet! I know a few very nice French girls with the name. It is a salt of the Earth good, nice, 'the girlfriend a boy can introduce to his Mum' probably bakes delicious cakes and plays the piano girls name! I like it! Very warm and fuzzy! Like apple pie and custard by the fire on a cold winters night....

Frakkin - I am shocked! Cécile doesn't seem nearly radical or racy enough for you!!! Annnnyhoooo - are you back in Paris now??? [stalker emotion]

By the way clairevictoria - please do join us... urrrmmm... ici...

teafortwo - nope, DH got sent to Reunion, cue much packing, stress and dropping a lot of juggling balls....It's nice but tropical beach babe wasn't my occupation of choice. Have an interview with an English teaching company on Thursday though so fingers crossed!

It's lovely.

Also Cecily and Camille.

I spent all night saying Cecile in a whispering mantra!! Wow pregnancy dreams are surreal! Not since I was living at high altitude have my nights been so bizarre! Very Alice in Wonderland!

It was my 'given name' in French classes at primary school - because my birthday (22 Nov) is the saint's day. Not that I'm very musical etc! have to say that in all honesty I slightly prefer Celia or Cecilia. Also no one here will do the accent - but then that's hardly a problem.

This may not bother some people, but the meaning of Cecile/Cecilia is 'blind' if I remember correctly (from my latin lessons many, many years ago).

Shame about the meaning, as it is a beautiful name!

Cheers for the link to the bilingual thread I have just posted a message.

frankkinaround - you live in Reunion. I am very jealous - it is one of the many islands I would love to see. DH visited a couple of years ago as his childhood friend was stationed there with armee de l'air. Whilst visiting the volcano erupted - it gets better - he had a prearranged flight across the island the next morning. He is a keen photographer. See link below.

You should come visit

But come in the southern winter, so European summer, cos it's pretty beastly atm!

I love Cecile - think it is my favourite out of Cecily, Cecilia and Celia - although I really love all of these.
I'm not sure about Cecile Rose either. I think it would go better with a longer middle name.

Cecile Marie
Cecile Juliette
Cecile Marie-Claire
Cecile Margarette

ClaireVictoria · 26/01/2010 10:23

Mum has bought me a new baby name book to help with the middle name! We all love Cecile, mum especially as it close to Cecilia which was her sister's middle name and her Aunt's name.

I quite fancy an English middle name hence Rose. Madly enough I spent ages finding out about French names but I haven't really explored any other options!

Aha another procrastination project to support my long list of work avoidance techniques!!
