Ophelia, or Imogen

MrsBadger · 12/01/2010 10:38

of those, Beatrix, but personally prefer Beatrice

I have an irrational hatred of Imogen (awful character in What Katy Did) and Ophelia (knew a dreadful one at school)

Genevieve is lovely though

ponygirl17 · 12/01/2010 11:01

Sorry but I think Beatrix is awful - sounds like a medicine. Apologies to anyone with that name.

passionberry · 12/01/2010 11:08

I like Beatix and Imogen - not to keen on Genevieve and Ophelia is a bit poncy (sorry!) and also the poor girl went mad and killed herself!

ponygirl17 · 12/01/2010 11:12

I prefer Ophelie, to Ohelia. Agree with passionberrys 'poncy' comment. I do ride a horse called Ophelie though!!

Imogen

MamaLazarou · 12/01/2010 11:16

Ophelia. I dislike the British pronunciation of Genevieve, and Imogen just always makes me think of the John Lennon song.

Genevieve.

Imogen is lovely but they're two a penny (or about to be - there'll be at least one more in her class at school), Ophelia is too floaty (plus mad and suicidal) and Beatrix reminds me of a girl with a pint on her head (although I like both beer and the name).

I prefer Ophelia - it is elegant, feminine and simple.

Genevieve is a bit of a mouthful and sounds good only in French imo.

Imogen is quite 'hard' and not very feminine imo, perhaps because of the -gen ending?

Beatrix is ok, I much prefer Beatrice.

randomimposter · 12/01/2010 14:11

Genevieve - biased as was my mum's name, but have only latterly loved it; you get great nns; Geni, Vivi, Vieve...
Imogen ok - but a bit hard IMO
Beatrice - always sounds a bit ugly to me... with an x no better
