DC3 is going to be our DD2.

I love Hannah, DH loves Nicola. Your thoughts?

Hannah

LetThereBeRock · 11/01/2010 12:44

Hannah is much nicer.

SecretSlattern · 11/01/2010 12:50

Thanks for your opinions! I don't really like Nicole because to me it just seems a bit of an unfinished name (sounds silly).

We are trying to avoid overly popular names and round here, Nicola is pretty unheard of, same as Hannah (surprisingly, so it seems!).

DD is voting for Hannah but only because she wants her first name as a middle name and it won't go with Nicola.

DD is Natalie and DS is Daniel if that helps at all?

Nicola actually goes better with Natalie and Daniel - with Hannah there's too many similar sounds.

randomimposter · 11/01/2010 21:02

disagree with PP
prefer Daniel, Natalie and Hannah as a trio...
(Nat and Nic a bit Appleton...! Is Nicole Appleton a cocktail waitress....?)

BrigitBigKnickers · 11/01/2010 21:11

Hannah is very very popular at the moment. Nicola is ok. What about Nicolette for something a bit different? (Can also be shortened to Nicki.)

bellissima · 12/01/2010 07:53

Silvery - I said it's Nicole who works in a nightclub - not Nicola! Went to school with two very nice Nicolas, neither of whom stirs the martinis. But in this particular case an effort to add a bit of French sophistication somehow...doesn't.

bellissima · 12/01/2010 07:54

PS Surely Nicolette helps you give up smoking?

stressheaderic · 12/01/2010 15:04

I'm a Nicola (early 80s child...)
Have always quite liked it really. I get Nic from close family and dp, Nicky from friends and Nicola as a professional name in work - don't mind any of them.

There does seem to be quite a high concentration of Sun Page 3 glamour models called Nicola/Nikkala/other random spellings though I am not one of them, I hasten to add.

It is quite unusual now, although 30 years ago was as ubiquitous as Joanne, Sarah, Claire, Louise, Jenny and Rachael (all my friends names .

SilveryMoon · 13/01/2010 16:28

Bellissima Sorry, I read it wrong then.
stresshead I am also an early 80's Nicola

Anna is the nicest if you would go with that, but Nicola better than Hannah!

SecretSlattern · 13/01/2010 22:29

stressheaderic, I am one of the other names you posted but can't show it because of the DC's names here and being found out in RL

Am a 60's Nicola. Almost always Nicola sometimes Nic. Can't bear being called Nicky.

Don't know of any children named Nicola currently but know two Hannahs. Didn't grow up with any Nicola's either

Libbylobster rubbish is a bit harsh.

BrigitBigKnickers · 13/01/2010 22:47

HUMPH Bellissima- that's my name- most people I know think it's a beautiful name.

Unfortunately the give up smoking product isn't the only one which is similar.

There is a product that can be bought to help pull out inverted nipples called a Nipplette...

Clary · 14/01/2010 00:01

Gosh well I know a lot of young Hannahs (DD's two best mates for example). Not many older ones tho one or two.

Nicola is a name of my generation wow there were two in my class and I now have 3 among my close acquaintance (late 30s-mid 40s).

So I guess it depends which you prefer. Cannot believe someone says Hannah not popular. (quick tally) there are at least 7 in our school (approx 200 girls).

If DD is Natalie then I think Nicola (= same initial) is not a good idea.

bellissima · 14/01/2010 08:07

Brigit - I'm sorry! It is a beautiful name - oops.

Agree with Clary - there are 3 Hannah's in my DD1's class. It's a nice name but it's certainly popular.

oldandknackered · 14/01/2010 20:59

I'm a 1960s Nicola with a DD called Hannah!

Much prefer Hannah.

BikeRunSnowflake · 14/01/2010 21:19

Hannah, unless you live somewhere where the regional accent is such that your DD will spend her life explaining that she is not called Anna.
