Should I give my daughter my middle name as her first name?

I love my middle name and would like to give it to my daughter when she arrives as her first name (only if she suits it of course once she's here). My husband likes the name too.

As a general principle do you think its bad form to do this - would it seem self-indulgent? Or do think it doesn't matter? Honest opinions please.

My name is my mum's middle name. Never been an issue and the words self indulgent have never been used re my mum. Go for it.

dont see it to be a problem, my dd's name is a form of my middle name which was my great nans name.

I know a family in which the same (very unusual) first name has travelled down through the male line since the Norman Conquest (Norman is not the name, though ). No man ever seems to think it's self-indulgent to pass down his name.

I think it's a lovely idea. I have passed my DD's name into the fourth generation and I think it's lovely to honour the women who went before her.

My name is my mother and my grandmother's first names with a hypen! now that possibly smacks of self indulgenct on their part however I don't think yours does at all

if you love your middle name and your DH agrees he wants to use it then brilliant! just having a name you both agree on is quite an achievement never mind where it came from

Yes, whyever not? I would consider doing the same, if I was having a girl. If you've lived with the name for years with no problems and still like it, it must be a good one!

My family has a tradition for the oldest girl in the family to have the name Mary or a variant of it in their names. Goes back 150 years or so. If I get lucky and have a baby and that child turns out to be a girl, she will have that tradition as well. It's a really nice idea.

I gave my DD my middle name.

My mum gave my sister her middle name for the same reason as you. Can't see any issue at all.

It's not a problem and not self indulgent, so absoulutely fine IF it is a nice name!

I have the same first name as my mother. It is a very rare foreign name. I love my Mum to bits and feel very special amongst my siblings to have her name!
