I have met a little Polly recently and I went to school with a Lucinda and a Vivien but none of those names are popular in my neck of the woods.
I would say they are all elegant or classic or both but none are my cup of tea at all.

Tommy · 08/01/2010 12:12

Not really heard any of them a lot recently except Polly and Beatrix

IMO, the most elegant classic one would be Vivien - the others sound a bit affected

needanamefast · 08/01/2010 12:20

I like them all except for clementine, lucinda and cressida.

henrietta if shortened to etta as nn??

lots of bella/isobel/isabella about so arabella may become popular

polly, vivien, cecilia, beatrix, jemima are lovely

PanicMode · 08/01/2010 12:30

I'd say Polly is the least classic of those - almost all of those names appeared at my school, with the exception of Vivien which I don't like because it's ambiguous and Cressida, which I think is just a bit too OTT - and I normally have fairly OTT taste!

MrsJohnDeere · 08/01/2010 12:39

Like Henrietta, Beatrix, Cecilia, Polly.

The only one I really don't like is Vivien.

Henrietta the most elegant, classic imo.

Arabella is the only really popular one round here (although I think Beatrix may be the next 'big' name).

LadyCressida · 08/01/2010 12:53

I don't know anyone with any of those names - except Cressida which is mine so obviously I would say it was awesome

People call me Cressy or Cress.

paulaplumpbottom · 08/01/2010 13:00

I love Beatrix although Jemima is beautiful to

birdofthenorth · 08/01/2010 13:17

Nice list, posh but classy names!

I've heard of a Vivien, two Polly's and a Celia recently -not Cecelia but close!

I like Henrietta best.

audley · 08/01/2010 13:20

I like all of these except Polly. My favourite is Jemima. I think Lucinda, Cecilia and Arabella are the most elegant and classic though.

MintyCan · 08/01/2010 13:23

I like them all except Jemima - I had an odd friend at school who used to refer to her fanjo as her "jermima" Thats probably a one off though

However, Jem for short is nice .

I also like Henrietta because I like Hetty for short.

bellissima · 08/01/2010 13:31

Oh dear I was going to say I liked Jemima! It was the okay doll on Playschool, non? - Hamble being the ahem, aesthetically challenged one.

Like Cecilia and Vivien (although the latter suddenly seems to be doing the MN rounds). Polly I think of as a girl's but not an adult's name. Arabella/Lucinda/Cressida/Henrietta too horsey (I like Harriet though). Clementine I just don't like - and don't go near it if you have red hair in the family.

Pancakeflipper · 08/01/2010 13:38

We had a dog called Cressida. She was a daft little thing. But very cute.

I think I like Vivien and Cecilia best but I think Vivien is getting popular near us - heard of several lately.

CuppaTeaJanice · 08/01/2010 15:26

I like Beatrix and Vivien, prefer the French version Vivienne though - sounds more glamorous!!!

legallyblond · 08/01/2010 15:33

I LOVE Beatrix (on my short list, my grandmother's name and dh's fave) and also like Clemintine a lot. I'm afraid I find Arabella and Cressida OTT....

sophieandbelly · 08/01/2010 15:50

clemintine nice, the rest just sound stuck up imo!

Sunshinemummy · 08/01/2010 16:09

I like Cressida Jemima, Beatrix and Clementine.

jellybeans · 08/01/2010 18:40

Cressida NOT KEEN AT ALL
Jemima NOT KEEN AT ALL
Henrietta NOT KEEN AT ALL
Lucinda LOVE IT
Beatrix AWFUL
Cecilia AWFUL
Vivien TERRILE, YOUNG ONES
Clementine NOT KEEN
Arabella NOT KEEN
Polly NOT KEEN

Lucinda by far the best. none are popular near me.

mumtoted · 08/01/2010 18:46

Wasn't Cressida a character in Viz?
Daughter of Modern Parents?

mumtoted · 08/01/2010 18:58

Sorry, she was the mother ( Cressida & Malcolm Wright-Pratt) but don't let that put you off.

Don't like any of them really. Polly is the best of a bad bunch and I only know one who is in her 30s
