Can you have sibling names that sound the same??

I have a Maisie already (not my choice but cant change it now!)

I am having dd2 in 3 weeks and love the name Marnie. It also goes really well with my Grans name as a middle name (she died last January so I am going to use her name no matter what)

Soon to be Exdp hates Marnie and doesnt think you can have Maisie and Marnie. He chose Maisie BTW.

What do you think?

I wouldn't tbh. Also not keen on Marnie, sorry

seeker · 05/01/2010 09:50

Too similar. And Marnie isn't a name for a person. Sorry.

MamaLazarou · 05/01/2010 09:53

My sister and I have similar-sounding names. At worst, it was only ever mildly irritating (our mum called us by each others' names, but then she does that with most people anyway).

Not keen on Marnie at all.

mama2moo · 05/01/2010 10:00

Back to the baby name books it is then.

I hate choosing names! Charlotte is my next choice but Im still not sure if I really like it.

Any suggestions for a good name to go with Maisie as a big sister?!

What is the middle name going to be? Think it may help to see how names sound together.
Lucy?
Sophie?
Holly?

mama2moo · 05/01/2010 10:21

The middle name will be Vera (please dont slate it as it means a lot to me!) Dp doesnt think I should use it as a way of remembering someone but I love the idea.

We have those 3 names in the family already.

At least I have 6 weeks to choose!!

I love Vera! It's a strong name.

Isabel Vera
Alice Vera
Ivy Vera
Nicole Vera
Katherine Vera

....still trying to think of others....

mama2moo · 05/01/2010 10:30

Thank you!! The name means a lot to me and I do like it. I get a few frowns and odd looks when I tell people!

Good names, I like Nicole and Isabel

gladders · 05/01/2010 10:42

think they're too similar (although love Marnie - know a v nice one !)

also think that if exdp hates it that it would just make things more tense to use it? at least choose a name he doesn't mind?

bumpybecky · 05/01/2010 10:46

Isabel/Isabelle/Isabella/Isobel is very popular. That might not bother you, but thought it was worth mentioning.

dd2(9) is an Isabel and there were 3 in her class with only 12 girls!

MamaLazarou · 05/01/2010 11:05

Vera's lovely.

birdofthenorth · 05/01/2010 11:35

I like Marnie (and Maisie) but they'd sound silly together, I'm sorry

CirrhosisByTheSea · 05/01/2010 12:05

Lily Vera
Elizabeth Vera

....still thinking!....glad you like Isabel and Nicole though

CirrhosisByTheSea · 05/01/2010 12:07

Annabel Vera
Beatrice Vera

I can see Maisie and Bea sounding very cute together actually

diddl · 05/01/2010 12:12

I think they are fine together tbh!

If you like the name, use it!

It´s hardly Louise and Louisa, is it?

mama2moo · 05/01/2010 12:21

Cirrhosis - You are good at this!! Bea is lovely, I dont think I have seen that in my baby name books.

Plus, dd would be able to say it!!

OP posts:
stepfordwife · 05/01/2010 12:26

think they sound fine together, too.
why don't you have vera (fab name) as her first name?

stepfordwife · 05/01/2010 12:27

...hmmm..maisie and bea is cute, though...
sorry, not much help, eh?

CirrhosisByTheSea · 05/01/2010 12:30

ooh go for Beatrice then. It would have been my Ds name, if he had been a girl

lamg · 05/01/2010 12:31

How about Vivienne Vera? Great nn Vivi. Maisie and Vivienne/Vivi sound fantastic together.

mama2moo · 05/01/2010 12:35

Dp really doesnt want me using Vera at all so as a first name its a defo no! He thinks using dead peoples names is wrong.

Vivienne is nice too!

I hate choosing names!! I know a girl who recently changed her name because she hated hers, I really felt for her parents.

pranma · 05/01/2010 12:47

Verity? You coud shorten it to Vera as first name but I like Marnie too, there is a lovely girls'story by Joan Robinson[I think]called,'When Marnie was here'.

MrsMattie · 05/01/2010 17:05

Sorry, but another vote against Marnie. Redneck stripper name.

Maisie is sweet. You need another name of that calibre.

hocuspontas · 05/01/2010 17:11

You could still have an 'M' name though - just not Marnie

Mollie Vera
Martha Vera
Mary Vera
Millie Vera

mathanxiety · 05/01/2010 17:44

A vote for Annabel Vera (Annie as nn would go with Maisie but not be too matchy matchy)
Margaret Vera (Maggie as nn for same reason as Annie?)
