Beautiul - was number 1 on my list for dd2 (dh vetoed though ) I still ove it

Mistletoesnowman · 21/12/2009 14:57

Yes it's pretty.

meggymegmegs · 21/12/2009 15:00

I think it's gorgeous

skihorse · 21/12/2009 15:03

Lovely - as long as you don't have a Rudy!

Rachiesparrow · 21/12/2009 15:58

skihorse - ? I am confused...!

It's a 'my name is Earl' reference. Two characters called Rudy and Catalina (American comedy shown on E4 if you are not familiar) It's also the first thing I thought of when I saw the name, I do think its a lovely name though.

Rachiesparrow · 21/12/2009 16:05

Oh! How odd. I've never seen My Name is Earl (heard of it though).

What's the character like?

OP posts:
Rachiesparrow · 21/12/2009 16:08

Bloody hell - just googled her. That actress is GORGEOUS.

BooHooo · 21/12/2009 16:14

Don't like it - sounds like a russian lapdancer

angfirsttimer · 21/12/2009 16:17

Actually I think I am talking bollocks the male character is called Randy not rudy. But yes the actress is gorgeous!

skihorse · 21/12/2009 16:21

ang You're right - where the heck did I get Rudy from?

Rachie Stunning and the rest eh?

angfirsttimer · 21/12/2009 16:24

rudy/randy not that far apart really!

CruelAndUnusualParenting · 21/12/2009 16:28

I automatically associate it with flying boats, but I'm probably a minority and anyway they are nice flying boats.

catinthehat2 · 21/12/2009 16:30

No! It is a ginormous old seaplane familiar to airshow visitors everywhere. You are always going to get this face from everyone who realises this!
here's a picture, chunky isn't it?

cloelia · 21/12/2009 17:18

weirdly, it is also the name of the company that first started selling coupons etc that you receive when you buy items in the supermarket. I wonder why?

Rachiesparrow · 21/12/2009 18:22

I know about the flying boat - my husband's an aeronautical engineer and he has a bit of a soft spot for the catalina. He's not sure about naming our daughter after a WWII flying boat, but I think it's still a lovely name! I'm trying to persuade him it will be nice.

I've already had a couple of faces from flying boat aware people, but then I also love the name Mercedes (vetoed by DH), so I suppose I'm not the type to be phased by it. Not sure that it would lead to school playground teasing either, as kids would be unlikely to be aware.

cloelia - bizarre. Hope no-one gets that reference!

catinthehat2 · 21/12/2009 18:37

But the car was named after the girl!

Mercedes Catalina it is then!

Rachiesparrow · 21/12/2009 18:41

catinthehat2 - I like it!

OP posts:
catinthehat2 · 21/12/2009 18:50

So do I, now that it's openly seaplane based!

LetThereBeRock · 21/12/2009 21:43

It makes me think of the dressing, though if you're in the UK then it's unlikely that many people will be familiar with that.

TigerDrivesAgain · 21/12/2009 21:47

The Catalina was a very elegant flying boat though, and it's a lovely name.

Now if you said "Sunderland" that would be a different matter

Rachiesparrow · 22/12/2009 09:33

Tiger, now that you mention it, Sunderland does have a certain feminine ring to it.
