Roisin Murphy of Moloko named her baby born 15th December 'Clodagh', ! I love this. Her baby's sur name is Henwood, not Murphy.

Thoughts MN Jury?

crumpette · 18/12/2009 12:31

Not my style personally, I would imagine all the primary school teachers struggling to pronounce it...love Roisin though!

Irish roots so it works - not a great fan of it personally but delighted she used the gh spelling!

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 18/12/2009 12:37

Love it. Friend's DD is Clodagh. She is in Dublin though. It's easy to pronounce!

BunnyLebowski · 18/12/2009 12:38

I'm Irish and I hate it. It's one of my least liked Irish girls names along with Grainne.

There are so many beautiful Irish names to choose from, much better than Clodagh.

Paperclipcollector · 18/12/2009 12:39

Seeing as she is Irish , not such an unusual name choice. I love it - underrated underused name

MaggieAnFiaRua · 18/12/2009 12:40

Well I guess Clodagh isn't a gaelic name. It was used by one socialite of the time for his daughter about 200 (?) years ago, and his inspiration was the river Cloddy in Tipperary!

I'm with you on Grainne though! groin.

There's a TOG called Clodagh Rubbish

I like it though

belgo · 18/12/2009 12:49

Moloko is a very good band, very popular on the continent, but I think they have broken up now and Roisin Murphy has had some successful solo singles. 'Bring It Back' is probably the most well known Moloko track - dance music but very tuneful as well.

I think Roisin Murphy is great - not another Cheryl Cole clone but very talented and unique.

BunnyLebowski · 18/12/2009 12:52

God yes belgo I have the most vivid memories of dancing like a loon in our uni bar with my best mate to that song. Very drunkenly.

doubleexpresso · 18/12/2009 13:19

Clodagh is the name of a lesbian in a Joanna Trollop novel. I really like it, but think people would struggle to pronounce it if only seeing it written.

Eva17 · 18/12/2009 13:37

Have a friend called Grainne with a daughter called Clodagh...lol !!

Don't hear so many babies called Grainne any more but Clodagh seems to getting more popular esp with Dr Clodagh Delaney in the Clinic and the popular chef, Clodagh McKenna.

Personally love the name.....

E

MaggieAnFiaRua · 18/12/2009 13:56

Dr Clodagh Delaney is unemployed now! so maybe the name won't seem so aspirational!

Seriously, many years ago I spotted a birth announcement in The Time(iirc) of a baby girl named Clodagh Cloggs. True.

GrendelsMum · 18/12/2009 17:58

I really like Clodagh, but I have to agree that Grainne is awful.
