Oh dear.. am just imagining being out and about and hearing "Rhodesia, just hold onto the pram" -- sorry but really you can't possibly, possibly do that.

OtterInaSkoda · 15/12/2009 16:32

Amnesia anyone?

Cortina · 15/12/2009 16:33

Ok, ok I'll get my coat.

Take it, that would be a resounding Mumsnet 'no' then.

The one I know may need her talent and beauty to see her through either that or change her name...

made grumpy husband laugh peacock!

Cortina · 15/12/2009 16:39

If you take away the 'political' inferences then no more silly than 'India hold on to the pram' perhaps?

yes completely agree but you could say the same about Mengele or Adolf (ibid) -- terrific names except for the political inferences.

peacocks · 15/12/2009 16:43

oh brainwave.. Sahara?

GrimmaTheNome · 15/12/2009 16:43

I find place names used for people strange in general (Chelsea? How did that arise?). But you simply can't ignore the bad historical resonances of 'Rhodesia'.

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 15/12/2009 16:45

I think the difference with names like India is that, well, India is still India........Rhodesia has absolutely undeniable colonial chimes to it.

OtterInaSkoda · 15/12/2009 16:46

You can't take away the political inferences though Cortina, naming a child after a country that was named after Cecil Rhodes!

I like Zahara, even though it sounds a bit like a car/a Brangelinalet.

seeker · 15/12/2009 16:46

Gobi?

OtterInaSkoda · 15/12/2009 16:48

or should that be a Brangelinaling?

nowwearefour · 15/12/2009 16:49

i am assuming this was a joke? if not, then NOOOOOO

Themasterandmargaritas · 15/12/2009 16:51
