Girls names that go with Freddie

wasabipeanut · 12/12/2009 15:39

Following on from last night's thread I really need help with girls names. DS is a Freddie. With only 7 weeks to go DH and I are struggling. We have a boys name in mind (Arthur George probably) but a concensus on girls names is proving elusive. Middle name will be Alice as both my grandmothers had that as a middle name.

I like:

Matilda
Martha
Katherine to be shortened to Kitty
Clara
Emmmeline (going off this due to the fact that she would spend her whole life saying "no, Emmeline not Emily"
Clemency
Elisabeth/Elizabeth (strong views on spelling anyone?

DH likes Iris which I think is too trendy and doesn't sit with Alice that well.

Come forth with your opinions.

Elisabeth/Elizabeth - would you shorten it? Betsy, Betty, Bessie, Beth, Lizzie all lovely

Love Emmeline. Emily sweet, too, although obviously way more popular.

Clara is lovely.

The others are OK, with the exception of Clemency, which is horrid.

wasabipeanut · 12/12/2009 15:49

Yep, I love all the abbreviated forms of Elizabeth - especially Betty, Eliza and Lizzy.

So Clemency gets black balled.

I love Emmeline too FWIW.

wasabipeanut · 12/12/2009 15:52

So do I but everyone I've mentioned it too has not heard properly and said "Emily?" Oh yes very nice.

Love
Ok
No because Kitty makes me think of a stripper/porn star
No
Love
Nooooooo
Elizabeth is quite nice.

cece · 12/12/2009 16:28

I think Dorothy Alice is nice and you can shorten it to Dot/Dottie or how about Dolly? That sounds good with Freddie.

MaggieNollaig · 12/12/2009 16:32

Clara, Martha, Elizabeth or Polly (not Dolly, dollies is boobs fgs) .

Not too mad about Matilda, but it's not dreadful. Clemency is awful but Verity is lovely.

indieangel · 12/12/2009 16:38

I would use Alice as first name, it goes perfectly with Freddie.

Ineedsomesleep · 12/12/2009 17:20

Love them all with the exception of Clemency.

We have an Emmeline, and yes everyone thinks she is called Emily but I still love the name.

Arthur George is great too.

cece · 12/12/2009 17:27

Oooh yes definitely Verity. That was my favourite for DC3 but he was a boy!

I didn't know Dollies were boobies?????

Ineedsomesleep · 12/12/2009 18:20

I've only ever met 2 Veritys and they were both total headbangers.

I didn't know Dollys were boobies either, but thats probably because I'm a bit lacking in that department.

wasabipeanut · 12/12/2009 19:11

Dorothy Alice was my grandma's full name - would feel a little wierd replicating it completely. Have to say I'm not keen on Dolly. Or Verity.

Thanks for the suggestions though - keep them coming!

right... enough with the Clemency bashing - it's a bloody excellent name (top of my shortlist)... HOWEVER I'm not sure it goes with Freddie as well as some of the others. Besides it's MINE all mine... .

Clara Alice is lovely
as is Matilda (and Freddie and Tilly sounds great)
As does Freddie and Kitty.

Also have just realised that I prefer Elisabeth with an S. BUT prefer Eliza more . Like Bess, Betsy, Beth as NNs. Lizzy if for Eliza.

Arthur George is also a GREAT name/combo. YOU have EXCELLENT taste - am sure you will choose wisely... and not Verity (have only known 2, both BONKERS...).

hohohojollster · 12/12/2009 20:17

forgot to say
my BF has a Fred and Beatrice
and another close friend a Freddie and George...

Icanseethesea · 12/12/2009 20:23

Frances?

NotanOtter · 12/12/2009 20:32

Jane / Janey

fab and über cool imo

confuseddoiordonti · 12/12/2009 20:34

Star?!

wasabipeanut · 12/12/2009 20:41

Notanotter - With a Freddie and a Jane all I'd need is Rod for a full set!

Thank you for your support Jollster - glad to see I'm not the only Clemency fan!

Lucy.

I always think of Freddie and Lucy together - from 'A Room With a View' - Freddie and Lucy Honeychurch.

NotanOtter · 12/12/2009 21:01

whoops

maybe your dp could change his name to Rod

NotanOtter · 12/12/2009 21:02

i was thinking Freddie and Jane and i just did not click!

Bonsoir · 12/12/2009 21:04

Clementine
