I love it!! It isn't remotely chavvy

My Dylan is 1 tomorrow and he isn't ginger. DH is though!

Lizzzombie · 11/12/2009 07:09

My Dylan is nearly 3, he doesn't have ginger hair.
I know one other Dylan, he doesn't either!

It means son or King of the sea. I picked it because it had a nice meaning (we live on the coast). My DP picked it because he is a big Bob Dylan fan.

I don't think its chavvy at all. Why do you think its chavvy P-Poo?

TheRedQueen · 11/12/2009 07:20

A friend's six year old son is called Dylan and she often complains that people don't know how to spell it and put "Dillon" instead (like Dillon the Donkey from the Mothercare series). They apparently picked it as a name because her husband is Welsh and the name has Welsh origins. I personally don't much like it: I still associate it with the Magic Roundabout (but that's just showing my age!)

sonniebonnie · 11/12/2009 08:20

I don't like Dylan/Dillon at all.

bogie · 11/12/2009 08:23

I know loads of Dylans, 6 under 4!!

baby2onitsway · 11/12/2009 12:25

Dylan does end up on some chav/scally lists. It was on the list of chav names by teachers that was published a few years back.

I really like it btw!

diddl · 11/12/2009 12:34

I love it!

JACKIEwrappingPAPER · 11/12/2009 12:50

my ds is Dylan so obviously i am biased. It's a lovely name and not that popular round here, he is the only Dylan in his school. (he's 5 and not ginger!)

RedQueen is right tho no-one can spell it, not even his blardy teachers. we get Dillon, Dylon, Dilon does irk a little, esp as we have an awkward surname which no-one can spell either. ho hum.

dizzycringles · 11/12/2009 23:41

we have a Dylan and she is beautiful

not chav at all - I really OBJECT to that fecking word on a baby naming board

its popular for a reason, because its lovely

peepool · 11/12/2009 23:44

I agree that Dylan is a bit chav. Sorry. It's not the worst though!

Kayzr · 12/12/2009 06:18

Dizzy, I agree. A name can't be chavvy. A person can be chavvy but not a name.

MummyTumble · 12/12/2009 10:02

I love it (shame DH doesn't) - not chavvy at all but i guess names come with the individuals so if you meet a chav then you will associate the name with them...

I went to school with a Dylan who was very very cool....and the Dylan Thomas/Bob Dylan connection appeals too...

If you love it, go with it!

BrigitBigKnickers · 12/12/2009 10:33

I know a Dylan who is about 11- naughty at school but considered very cool. His mum is cool and laid back too- lovely lady not at all chavvy - I wouldn't have said it was that sort of name.

Caiden is truly awful sorry- kids with den on the end are always pains in the neck IME (am a teacher so have met a fair few...)

I really like Dexter but wouldn't choose it as I am also a fan of the programme with the same name!( It's about a serial killer in case you haven't seen it)

ohnelly · 13/12/2009 12:12

Dylan is a lovely name - not chavvy at all. Its my brothers name & hes not ginger either!!
