Eve

For years we've had the name Eve as our girl's name. It's still our plan to go for this name if this baby is a girl, but I'm having slight wobbles (clearly nothing better to worry about today!).

I still love the name as much as ever but just worry that it's too popular. In fact though, I actually looked earlier and in the top 100 baby names list it's 80 something - whereas Evie (which I would have thought was more of a nickname) is top 10.

I probably (she says!) wouldn't myself call the baby Evie though I guess that everyone else probably will. I just see it as more of a nickname, which is why I was suprised to see that it was so much higher up the top 100 list than Eve itself.

Anyway - I think I've had this name as fixed in my mind for so long that now that it's actually becoming a possibility that I'll be using it - I'm over-analysing. Is it still a good 'un?

I have an Eve and she never gets called Evie as everyone knows she is just Eve.

Congrats on your twins Lottie. Beautiful names.

I really like Eve and think Evie would be nice as a nickname for a baby Eve. I'm not so keen on Evie as the actual first name, though.

sophieandbelly · 08/01/2010 15:47

my daughter is evie,so love it, dont think of it as a nickname, often call her eve, also lovely, think people give the ie sound because it sounds younger!

people do follow the lead of the parents so if ur not keen on evie then say so from the off. althno my pain mil still insists on (evesie) which aaaggghhhh i hate!!

Dont understand the strict differentiation between Eve and Evie surely they are one and the same really as Eve will always end up being called Evie [confused emoticon]

Lovely names but personally would avoid like the plague as way too popular.

my 40 year old friend is Eve and always has been! i wouldn't call her Evie, nobody ever has.

Eve is beautiful. Classic, simple, but not plain.

well... personally..

I think its a great name!!!

Just seem interchangeable to me! As I said lovely name(s) but then everyone thinks so hence the popularity. And the fact they are popular is not a problem at all if it doesn't bother you.

muminthemiddle · 09/01/2010 00:14

Eve is lovely, so much nicer than Evie, imo.

scarlettblue · 09/01/2010 05:05

I wouldn't worry about Eve potentially being shortened to Evie too much. My two year old Eva has always been Eva and will correct people who call her Evie with a very grand 'my name's Eva'

We do occasionally call her Evie when she's being particularly endearing and she tolerates it with a very long suffering look!
