Opinions/thoughts please.

What do you think of Stanley, known as Stan?

love it.

it's the only name i heard after ds was born that made me think 'oh we shold have used that one'.....

like most of your other names too but stan ley is so unusual (still) and works well for a little boy or a grown man.

oldandknackered · 09/12/2009 12:09

Love it - Stan the man!

littleomar · 09/12/2009 12:11

Hey mine is George Stanley too!

There is a Stanley of about 4 who lives down our road.

It is a fine name.

awful, awful, awful. if i meet a little stanley i know his parents will be on a different planet to me.

Arsed · 09/12/2009 12:40

It's probably the only boys name I really can't stand.

Zil131 · 09/12/2009 12:42

I love it. Will it go with your sir name as 'Stan'? Our sir name is a bit abrupt, so Stan xxxx sounds too northern / old fashioned (I had to rule it out coz of this )

I also think it's more important to consider that people spend more of thier life as adults than babies - so don't worry about "not suitable for a baby comments" (I do wonder how all these boys with name ending in "-ie" will suit them as spotty moody teenagers...)
If it does seem too old manny, you'll find a baby nickname anyway!
Go for it!!

Oh dear. We just need something that we can agree on for more than 5 minutes!

Dd is Laura Isobel

We'd prefer to use Edward as a middle name.

2 syllable surname beginning with a hard "G" sound, think Garden but not.

Any other ideas.....please!

I think Stanley Edward sounds fantastic.

FWIW, My DS2 is Oscar Stanley George and am currently pg with DC3, if he's a boy we are thinking of calling him Stanley. (Had seperate thread about this last week on the topic of whether I could use DS2's middle name as DC3's first name).

I say go for it.

To be honest, when you ask people's opinions on ANY name, you'll get very polarised views and you're bound to get plenty of people saying that they really dislike it. Especially a 'less usual' name like Stanley.... that's why it is 'less usual' after all!

Stanley is the new Harvey. Definitely.

Working-class old man chic.

It will be as naff as Harvey before long.
