My other children are named
Nicole Louise
Scott William Phillip
Lee Anthony

Our surname is Raby .

I know some people will think I am mad for wanting names that I feel suit complement each other.. But some names really do sound funny when I say all 4 childrens names together..
What is your opinion..

I like Oliver James but Olly/Ollie may sound too close to Lee.

ShowOfHands · 04/12/2009 08:12

That's a lot of personal info to share on an anonymous forum. Your choice of course.

I think Oliver James is an okay name, but very popular and of the moment whereas the other names aren't. Every other boy I meet is an Oliver. The others are Harry or Finn. It's stopped being a nice name and become so ubiquitous that I just think 'oh another one'.

MamaLazarou · 04/12/2009 08:15

I often wonder what people mean when they talk about DC's names 'going together', but in this case, I do think that Oliver doesn't really 'match' with your other children's names, especially Lee. All lovely names, btw.

MaryBS · 04/12/2009 08:15

Oliver James reminds me of Jamie Oliver I'm afraid!

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 04/12/2009 08:23

Oliver James was the name of our Estate Agents... I do like it though

diddl · 04/12/2009 11:30

I don´t really think it matches the other boys names, either.

jessia · 04/12/2009 11:33

My brother (33) is Oliver James + family surname as 2nd middle name...
It was waaay out back then!

threeplusone · 04/12/2009 12:13

Interesting... Thank you.. defo some food for thought..
The Olly/Ollie is what I was thinking too re being too close to Lee.
SHow of hands.. TBH I have always been open in the forum.. re names etc.over the last 6 /7years... never addresses or anything like that though..

I am trying to avoid over popular names.. but being away from the UK for so long isnt helping.. but I know we will be returning as and when we have to .

I want a good solid name.

My other choices were Max and Alex but DD doesnt like either.(as our car is an S max this is also putting me off..lol) This is the only baby I have had a problem naming.. waiting for a name to jump out at me and say yes that is the one..lol.
Thank you all once again.

First thought is Jamie Oliver, but other than that is pukka

sinpan · 04/12/2009 12:28

It's nice, I like it. It trips nicely off the tongue.

Oliver James also the name of a terrific but very sad song by the Fleet Foxes, which you can listen to here. Don't listen if you're really committed to the name as the lyrics are too tragic, might put you off. Gorgeous song though.

What about Nigel James ?

ra29needsabettername · 04/12/2009 17:25

Also the name of a popular psychologist who writes about families....

nice though

SexOnFire · 04/12/2009 17:33

Olikver James is the name of a clinical psycholgist here

SexOnFire · 04/12/2009 17:34

x post, started to write that post then got distracted by DC!

jellybeans · 04/12/2009 22:12

Reminds me of the author of Affluenza etc. Not keen on Oliver, too popular and will get Ollie.

cannotdecide · 04/12/2009 23:17

I think it is lovely and matches your other names perfectly. Hadn't thought about the Ollie / Lee similarity and it might be a problem. What about Owen James? or Oscar James? My cousin is known as "OJ" (for Oliver John) he loves the initials - his mates now call him OJ and think he is really cool.

threeplusone · 05/12/2009 14:24

Thank you all xx much appreciated to hesar dofferent veiws on the name will let you know when we decide for defdo.. Thanks again xxx
