36 weeks - NO boys names, DH likes NONE!

I am just coming up to 36 weeks and really stuggling with boys names.

The problem is not me but the DH, i like many names but so far DH has not liked ANY!

How did any of you cope with picking a name in such difficult circumstances?!

Top of my list is Ezra - which DH did like and is now saying he doesn't.

I also like;

Nathaniel
Solomon
Isaac
and Gabriel

HELP, any advice gratefully recieved!

give him a baby name book and make him go through it ticking any he likes.I had same problem with my DH,he always knew someone called the name i liked an didnt like them. But he found 4 names in the entire book of 1000 that he liked....then i had 3 girls

ilovesprouts · 03/12/2009 10:48

not keen on ezra!! but i love solomon ,isaac!! but its your baby its uo to you good luck !!

sunshinejanuary · 03/12/2009 10:49

Totally Floaty - we have been given FIVE baby books and he still comes up with nothing!!

Tell him that you will make a unilateral decision on naming the baby if he can't be more helpful

Seriously, if he can't make a single suggestion at all then he hasn't got a leg to stand on, has he?

sunshinejanuary · 03/12/2009 10:51

Cyteen - that is my thoughts on it but then i feel a bit guilty!

I agree with what cyteen said - seriously, you'll just have to choose the name yourself if your DH doesn't even like one single name.

diddl · 03/12/2009 11:38

Like Isaac & Gabriel from your "list".

Doesn´t he have any suggestions at all?

hattee · 03/12/2009 11:38

I agree with the others - if your DH won't suggest even one name, or at least let you know which of your choices he likes the most (or dislikes the least), then you will have to make an executive decision.

My DH only liked one name, and I liked several. In a state of post-labour exhaustion I agreed to the name he liked - even though I didn't like it. What an idiot . We ended up changing it after it was registered. I wish I hadn't insisted that he look through the baby books as then he wouldn't have become fixated on this one name!

Totallyfloaty35 · 03/12/2009 12:00

Oh dear, name the baby yourself.DH only liked 4 names but we only agreed on 2,one of them was Gabriel.Dont pick something he really hates, but if he has no real feeling one way or the other and you love it,then go with it.

sunshinejanuary · 03/12/2009 12:03

The only suggestion he has had is the name of a relative of his and his family would not be happy about this so he agrees that is out.

Other than that he has said no to EVERYTHING!!

I really dont want to push him into a name he hates - he says he hates all of the ones i like by the way, but the baby haas to be named!

I am praying for a girl!!

Have almost the same story as Hatlee. DH refused to look at Baby Name Books. Barely came up with a suggestion for a girl's name throughout the pregnancy. Said no to all the ones I loved then I ended up agreeing to his suggestion whilst still on gas & air in the 3rd stage of labour!

Agree with everyone else, get him to make a list and sit down and discuss it properly.

bogie · 03/12/2009 12:06

Justin (ds' name)
Dexter ( I love this 1)
Lewis

differentID · 03/12/2009 12:12

What about Eli/ Elias/ Elijah?

sunshinejanuary · 03/12/2009 12:15

Elijah is also on my list

I am relly not exagerating when i say he doesn't like any - he has been through a baby book and not come up with anything!!

OP posts:
Ineedsomesleep · 03/12/2009 12:16

Is your list still the same?

Ineedsomesleep · 03/12/2009 12:18

Sorry, bit of x-posting there.

Elijah and Eli were on my list too last time. DH said no because he doesn't like biblical names.

differentID · 03/12/2009 12:19

then tell him you will call the baby No-Name-because-my-father-couldn't-choose. In the 16th cnetury Puritan tradition.

sunshinejanuary · 03/12/2009 12:21

I like it different!

Well i posted on here the few i like best but i have a pretty long list of names i could live with and Elijah is definitely on that.

OP posts:
Ineedsomesleep · 03/12/2009 12:23

Love it different. If your DH is looking for an unusual name he might just love it too.

diddl · 03/12/2009 12:25

In the end, we only ever agreed on one boys name & one girls name.

Good job I ended up with one of each!

What is wrong with using the relatives name?

Tillyscoutsmum · 03/12/2009 12:26

What is his objection to the names you like ?? I like them but they are all quite biblical. Is that the issue ? What's the name he likes that you can't have ? Is there anything similar that you like as well.

I really do believe name choosing should be a joint decision but if there are really none he likes (or at least one he doesn't actively dislike), then there's really not much choice is there ?

sunshinejanuary · 03/12/2009 12:27

Ah Diddl - it is family politics, let us just say this person is a black sheep and leave it there!

I would be happy if we could just agree on ONE boys name!

OP posts:
diddl · 03/12/2009 12:30

Try not to despair.

I was tidying the bookshelf & the name of an author just leaped out at me-and that was the name we both liked.

pixiestix · 03/12/2009 13:16

Whats the one family name that your DH liked initially? Then the Mumsnet ladies can have a think and see if we can come up with anything similar!

sunshinejanuary · 03/12/2009 15:06

Pixie - it is Toby - but to be honest i don't like it!!
