I just found out I'm having a girl! Here is my first shortlist - dd1's name has become very popular of late so I don't really want a name that will be in the top 30. Would love some positive thoughts on the one/s you like or anything similar? Thanks
Cordelia
Helena
Jemima
Lucetta
Rosamund
Hester
Octavia
Annabel
Alberta
Alexandra
Harriet
Agatha
Verity

I love Cordelia.

Jemima and Verity are nice.

The only one I don't like is Hester.

LynetteScavo · 01/12/2009 18:53

Oh, Alberta makes me think of the sang Alberta Bay......

IckleJess · 01/12/2009 18:55

Love Agatha, would be my first choice of name, shortened to Aggie, but DH hates it

Like Hester too but she would prob spend whole life correcting people who thought she'd said 'Esther'. Alexandra is on my girls' names list too. Harriet lovely but agree that Octavia is too horsey lol

Don't like Rosamund, sorry.

Lucetta sounds too frilly and made-up to my ears. I like all your other choices, especially Harriet (classy and brave) and Rosamund (very romantic-sounding).

dixiecringles · 01/12/2009 19:49

I have a Cordelia and an Alexandra so love them both

PetrusPoo - I think 'vile' isn't really a constructive comment for a baby naming board

other than that I like Helena from your list

have you considered

Cecilia
Celesta
Arianna
Imogen
Saskia
Beatrice?

congratulations btw

cloelia · 01/12/2009 20:09

i like them all except the ones beginning with A: Annabel too ubiquitous? Alberta too Canada? Alexandra ok but always Alex; Agatha sounds a very hard name;especially love Hester, Helena and Verity. A lovely list imo.

mummydarlingsausage · 01/12/2009 20:10

Thank you for the comments so far - dixie I like Arianna and Celesta/e? from your suggestions.

Love Helena

sweetnitanitro · 01/12/2009 20:22

I love these ones-

Cordelia
Helena
Rosamund
Hester
Octavia
Alexandra
Harriet
Agatha
Verity

But don't like these-

Jemima- reminds me of ducks
Lucetta- sounds like parts of 2 other names stuck together
Annabel- bit prissy
Alberta- reminds me of cowboys

SantasKinkyKnickers0nMaHead · 01/12/2009 20:24

Helena. All the others I do not like.

CuppaTeaJanice · 01/12/2009 21:03

They're all very posh. Remind me of the names of the girls in the 1950s girls boarding school stories from the book club my mum belonged to when she was young.

I always liked Petrova and Marguerite best out of all that style of names.

Helena is my favourite from your list. Or Alexa?

thirtysomething · 01/12/2009 21:19

I like Annabel, Alexandra, Harriet, Agatha and Verity.

The others are a bit frilly for my taste - sorry

Other names in similar vein:

Elena
Elisa
Alicia/Alyssa
Felicity
Beatrice
Agnes
Maud
Violet
Miranda
Lydia
Natas ha

dizzycringles · 01/12/2009 21:20

CuppaTea - your post made me smile because DH and I often laugh about going down the park when the girls are 15yrs old to catch them swigging merrydown and trying to look cool with their mates - we're going to use their full names to give them a row before we drag them home

ours all have shortened versions for daily use!!

I love Jemima, Annabel and Alexandra! They're Beautiful!

I don't like Rosamund or Lucetta so much, but Rosie is lovely. How about Annie or Beatrice? x

bellissima · 02/12/2009 11:30

Like Helena and Harriet. Agree with other posters that some of the others are a bit jolly hockey sticks.
