Can I use DS2's middle name as DC3's first name?

I need help. Have 2 DS and am currently preg with DC3 who we strongly suspect will be a boy given the form of our family. As we were definitely not having another after DS2 , we used up all our favourite names on him. He is Oscar Stanley George. We really wanted to use Stanley as a first name but weren't brave enough. Anyhow, fast forward 2 years and the only boys name we both like is Stanley.
Do you think we can legitimately use this despite it being DS2's middle name?
Keep thing 'yeah, of course' then think I might find it wierd if a friend did the same. Honest opinions please.

I wouldn't

let him have his own name

FWIW, i was convinced DC2 would be boy number 2 but she wasn't!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 30/11/2009 20:10

I sympathise with the problem of not having another name you like for a subsequent DC, but I don't think you should do this.

Surely we can help find another name ?

I have two boys.

popsycal · 30/11/2009 20:19

we almost did this but didnt in the end
still love the name but glad we didnt

popsycal · 30/11/2009 20:20

it was ds3 aswell

DebiTheScot · 30/11/2009 20:20

I've got a friend whose dd3 has dd1's middle name as her 1st name. I think it's ok.

oopsandbabycoconut · 30/11/2009 20:22

My sister is Ann which is one of my middle names and to complicate things my mum is Ann too. I think they got to DC3 and ran out of names.

CitizenPrecious · 30/11/2009 20:23

no I'm afraid you can't

...it would be like Too Many Daves

LittleAngelicRose · 30/11/2009 20:26

Honest opinion - your children, do whatever makes you happy. There is no law that says you can't, there isn't really any tradition that says you can't, families that used lots of names for their children or had very many often used the same names: King John had two daughters called Joan.

Follow your own mind and lets face it, on a day to day basis, it won't matter and no one will know.

strongblackcoffee · 30/11/2009 20:29

No, I wouldn't. Children get very funny about 'owning' their names. I think unless they all shared the name then it's a bit weird... sorry!

(by the way, my ds2 has Stanley as a middle name, good choice!!)

gloriana · 30/11/2009 20:29

My middle name is my younger sister's first name and when she used to call me names, I would reply that 'xxx was my middle name' thereby calling her what she had just called me I thought I was very clever and it never ceased to wind her up. I would definitely advise against it in the interests of family peace!!

cremeeggs · 30/11/2009 20:31

no, don't think it's a good idea-I think your DS2 and 3 may resent it. do you need other name suggestions?

BaronessBarbaraKingstanding · 30/11/2009 20:32

Course you can.

No one really cares abut middle names. Except pregnant women.

If you called them all stanely as first names then it would like too Many Daves, LOVE that story!!

Merle · 30/11/2009 20:35

I quite like it. It's like a common thread running through your family.

Sesi · 30/11/2009 20:43

I wouldn't, it doesn't seem fair on either child to have to share a name.

There are hundreds of nice names, no need to repeat.

mrsmindcontrol · 30/11/2009 20:46

Hmmmm, am surprised at the amount of people saying No. I hadn't thought it was too odd.
Seems very much like, yes, we DO need other suggestions!!
btw DS1 is Felix.

piratecat · 30/11/2009 20:55

Felix, Oscar and Eddie

CitizenPrecious · 30/11/2009 20:58

Francis/Frank

Jamieandhismagictorch · 30/11/2009 21:05

Felix, Oscar and .....

Albie
Louis
Evan
Arthur

Any of those grab you ?

DiamondHead · 30/11/2009 21:05

My sister's first name is the same as my middle name. I can't personally see the problem, never bothered us and Stanley is lovely.

Names like Stanley
Wilfred
Albert
Fred (ie)/(erick)
Arthur
Walter

maxpower · 30/11/2009 21:07

Ditto diamond
My sister's first name is the same as my middle name. No problem with us.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 30/11/2009 21:12

My name is the same as my mum's name. Causes no end of problems ....

MamaLazarou · 01/12/2009 07:46

I am surprised by the number of times this particular quandary pops up on here!

Of course there is nothing to stop you using DC1's middle name as DC2's first name - it seems slightly odd, but there's nothing actually wrong with it.

It just seems strange to me that, out of all the millions of names in the world, you only like one. Surely you could think of another? I have enough names on my shortlist for a dozen children at least!

diddl · 01/12/2009 08:08

You have a Felix & Oscar?

That´s what I wanted!

I love those names!

Theo as suggested earlier goes great!

Hamish?
Rufus?
Ruari? (Sp?)
Gideon?
Gabriel?
Jonah?
Jonas?

Anything but Stanley!

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/12/2009 08:29

Oh gosh, we have the same dilemma, and was hoping that people wouldn't think this was odd. Dh and I just cannot find another name that we both love if dc3 turns out to be ds2.
