Any thoughts on these names or any further suggestions?

  1. James ) Jamie
  2. Edward
  3. Matthew
  4. Joshua
  5. Benjamin
  6. Joseph (but I've already given this as a middle name to my ds1)

I have a million girls names that I love but there aren't too many boys names I'm fussed on.

vivivi · 29/11/2009 10:51

I love Jamie, that is my favourite boys name so I would go with that!!

diddl · 29/11/2009 10:51

James & Joshua are my faves from your list.

I also like Hamish, Noah, Gideon Gabriel, Rufus & Angus.

vivivi · 29/11/2009 10:53

Jsut thought of a few more boys names Zachary, Riley and Gideon - they are all lovely too.

shockers · 29/11/2009 10:55

Joseph... does it matter if it's DS1's middle name? It will make him feel special, like the baby has been named after him!

thirtysomething · 29/11/2009 11:13

Love all except Joshua

Matthew, James and Joseph are very easy names to live with; also Edward cool when shortened to Ed or ted!

audley · 29/11/2009 15:57

all lovely except Jamie and Joshua

cece · 29/11/2009 16:18

I like them all except Jamie. I like Edward the best. How about Tom or John or Jonathan?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 29/11/2009 17:47

I like all of them, but Matthew is definitely the best. It is good for all ages, and less common than the others.

Edward is good - Ted is my favourite nn

Although I like Jamie as a nn, I would use James as a given name

Jamieandhismagictorch · 29/11/2009 17:48

Also, Patrick is a great name

Hulababy · 29/11/2009 19:11
  1. James - traditional, solid name; not really my choice but def a fine name

  2. Jamie - IMO this is a nn for (1), not a name on it's own

  3. Edward - lovely name, love the nn Ned (don't like Ed/Eddie/Ted)

  4. Matthew - traditional, solid name; not really my choice but def a fine name

  5. Joshua - I lik Joshua but not keen on Josh as nn

  6. Benjamin - traditional, solid name; not really my choice but def a fine name

  7. Joseph - love this name, def my favourite - but can you really use your DS1's middle name as a first name for DS2?

Hulababy · 29/11/2009 19:11

Other names to consider along same ilk: Charles (nn Charlie), William, Samuel

JaneiteMightBite · 29/11/2009 19:18
  1. James - love it ) Jamie - don't like it
  2. Edward - love it
  3. Matthew - like it
  4. Joshua - less fond
  5. Benjamin - love it
  6. Joseph (but I've already given this as a middle name to my ds1) - like it but I personally wouldn't use it, if it's your ds1's middle name: it would be like 'stealing' his name. Unless he's old enough to have it explained to him and to make him feel special to share his name with his brother.
LadyOfTheFlowers · 29/11/2009 19:24

James - Too 'normal' for me

Jamie - Just don't like it personally

Edward - 'Normal' but I like it

Matthew - Ditto James and just don't like it

Joshua - Lots of them here

Benjamin - I gave to DS2 as his middle name, not for first name as knew he would just be called Ben.

Joseph - Is DS1s middle name.

In conclusion I like Edward, Benjamin, Joseph.

doubleexpresso · 29/11/2009 23:02

Why not combine James and Edward to make (scratches head) ... Jedward! Sorry. Love Joshua.

jellybeans · 30/11/2009 00:27

I like Matthew.

teameric · 30/11/2009 00:37

I like Edward the most, and James because that is my DH's name but everyone calls him Jamie which I don't like.

Clary · 30/11/2009 00:47

James - v v v popular - there are 3 in one class I help in and all the DC have at least one pal called James. Nice name tho and easy to spell/say.

Jamie - short for James isn't it?

Edward I like, I know a few but not hundreds (oddly, 3 in one year at school).

Matthew - see James. DS1 has 3 good pals called Matt.

Joshua - also popular, also nice.

Benjamin - another popular one, Ben is good tho as nice short name, handy for early writing efforts!

Joseph - as above really. Joe or Joseph in most classes.

My fave then of yr choices is Edward, just because it's less likely that you will know another half dozen of them under 10yrs.

LittleMissWorryHead · 30/11/2009 19:53

Not keen on James, its just so....i dunno. Just so!

I like Matthew, although he would become a Matt, Benjamin (I have one, he is a Ben. V cool.) Edward is a pet hate of mine, and i cannot stand Ned....Joshua is ok.

I don't think you can give Joseph. Its your DS1's name. Ben's middle name is Joseph and we considered it but ds2 turned out to be Jacob instead.. (Can you see a theme there?!)

From your list I would go with Matthew or Benjamin.

What about:

Noah
Oscar
Louis
George
Leo?

Good luck

mummyloveslucy · 30/11/2009 19:57

I like Oliver, Elliot, Archie and Hugo.

rubyslippers · 30/11/2009 19:58

Benjamin - fabulous

Mama2b5 · 19/12/2009 23:49

4 & 5 - wonderful strong names and also my lil bros names wondeful!

yep people shorten it by calling them matt, matty, j or josh but who really cares? they dont mind!

meggymegmegs · 21/12/2009 16:51
  1. James - Lovely
  2. Jamie - I'd go for James and have this as a nn
  3. Edward - Lovely, my sister's ds's name, nn Teddy
  4. Matthew - Less keen on Matthew
  5. Joshua - Agree that Joshua is nice, but not as keen when it gets shortened to Josh
  6. Benjamin - Really like this although there are a fair few around
  7. Joseph - I like the idea of giving him your ds1's middle name, my cousins have the same and I have never thought it was strange.
Tortington · 21/12/2009 16:52
  1. James - no ) Jamie - really hell no
  2. Edward - meh
  3. Matthew - nice
  4. Joshua - eww no
  5. Benjamin - nice
  6. Joseph (but I've already given this as a middle name to my ds1) just 'joe'?
