Can you have Josie as a stand alone name?

Or does it have to be short for Josephine? Can it be short for anything else? I love Josie, but not sure about Josephine as don't generally like diminutives added on to male names. But should she have the flexibility of using both full name and nick name?

A really lovely name - not "up itself" like some of the names out there.

Lovely - may get shortened to Jo in the playground.
