How common is Imogen??

DH and I are shortlisting names. We can agree easily on boys' names, but girls' names we are having difficulty with. The only two we both like are Cressida (but really really doesn't go with the surname - damn) and Imogen, but I saw Imogen is in the top 40 (number 37 in 2008). It really surprised me as I don't know of a single little girl called Imogen, but can you tell me how many you know?? I was one of 4 Emmas in my class at school and I really want to try and avoid that for our DC if possible!

We have an Imogen. Just adored the name. We don't know any other Imogen's and get lots of comments about how lovely it is and how unusual. Loads of our friends commented on how unusual it is. We shorten her to Mimi/Mims. I say go for it!!

I don't know as I have never met her. Does she pick her nose? Or wear slogan t-shirts? Or call napkins serviettes?

Can't judge without full information.

I live in the NW and know of two Imogens both in their teens. I've also heard a lot of mums to be considerng the name.

KristinaM · 21/11/2009 22:43

I live in Scotland. According to the Registrar General, there were 66 baby girls named Imogen in 2008, making it the 76th most popular name here

A few where I live, but not in the Ruby/Grace/Tilly/Milly league, so I think you'll be fine.

I LOVE THIS NAME AND THOUGHT OF IT FOR MY FIRST DAUGHTER BUT WER PUT OFF IT AS WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE HARD FOR OTHER CHILDREN TO PRONOUNCE

Lakesandsnadders · 28/11/2009 21:17

I only know 1 and she's 40! DH teaches and has only taught 2 in 10 years. I'm surprised it's number 37-where are they all hiding?!

mummyloveslucy · 28/11/2009 21:21

I think this name was very popular a couple of years ago. I do like it though.

boodleboot · 28/11/2009 21:27

I like Cressida....i have known two in my life and both have been very intelligent and very kind.

Imogen is on the up around my way too....

AuraofDora · 28/11/2009 21:35

cressida, i think that cruel to name a child thus

serinBrightside · 28/11/2009 22:21

There are two in DS2's class and one in DS1's class but they are the only 3 in the school.

I am in Cheshire.

bogie · 28/11/2009 22:24

I know 3 all are under 2 years old.

Arcadie · 29/11/2009 09:31

We have an Imogen. We thought we were being terribly original as with DS's name. Turns out that in her nursery class of 12 she was the 3rd Imogen to start that year. We were but still love it as a name for our little girl no matter if it's in the Top 10!

Arcadie · 29/11/2009 09:32

FWIW - we're in York.

purepurple · 29/11/2009 09:33

I am in the nw and know 1 Imogen: she is 2.
