Middle name to go with Giovanna?

HeadFairy · 12/11/2009 15:39

Not that we've settled on this as dd's name, but I really like it but I can't think of a middle name that'll go with it. I think it needs to be quite short, and I'd quite like something Italian/Spanish/French.

Any suggestions?

Giovanna Maria sounds nice but depends how many syllables your surname has

branflake81 · 12/11/2009 15:47

Lucia?

MamaG · 12/11/2009 15:50

ooh yes nice one b

i like names that end with a. None of my DC have names endng in a though

KirstyDan · 12/11/2009 15:54

I always liked Gabriella

HeadFairy · 12/11/2009 16:29

Can't do Lucia - it's dh's sisters name, and although she's lovely, we've already caused one major rift with our non use of family names, I think my FIL would go in to tail spin if we called our dd after his daughter and not his sainted mother... or something like that.

Less keen on Maria, don't know why, sounds a bit old fashioned.

Gabriella is my sister's dd's middle name so feels a bit odd using one of her names iywsim.

Elena?
Helene?
Rosa?

HeadFairy · 12/11/2009 16:40

Not sure about Rosa, makes me think of Rosa Klegg (James Bond baddie, silly I know!)

I like Elene... my great grandmother was called Julienne... do you think that's too many J/G sounds? (Obv I won't be telling my FIL that it's my GGmother's name!)

wow AKMD!!!! You've got a lot of Italian and Spanish friends!

Chiara is actually another name I'd quite like as dd's first name, but I'm not sure if it might be mispronounced in England (Kiaora anyone?)

OP posts:
AKMD · 12/11/2009 23:11

I lived there for a while, will think of some more I'm sure! Isn't Kiaora the name of a cut-price orange squash drink?!

JesusChristOtterStar · 12/11/2009 23:12

lucia

puffling · 12/11/2009 23:19

Giovanna Rana like the pasta company

AitchTwoToTangOh · 12/11/2009 23:21

i love chiara as well. dd2 has an italian name (technically so does dd1 as well, but it's less obvious as it didn't affect the spelling).

BettyButterknife · 13/11/2009 19:04

Vita

dizzydixies · 13/11/2009 19:41

is it just me that thinks it shouldn't be put with another 'a' sounding name?

Giovanna Marie
Giovanna Carmen
Giovanna Isabel

HeadFairy · 13/11/2009 20:05

Perhaps that's why I've been a bit meh about all the names I can think of so far... Giovanna Carmen sounds really cool Dizzy.... nice one!

sorry I can't think of anymore that have mediterrean influences(flu addled brain)

my fav Spanish names at the moment are Magdalena and Carmelita neither of which go well with Giovanna !!

AitchTwoToTangOh · 13/11/2009 21:19

yes, that's probably a good point, we followed dd2's name with a very british one, single syllable, quite plain. what are your family names? grandma?

dizzydixies · 13/11/2009 22:46

Giovanna Celeste
Giovanna Cecile
Giovanna Ismay
Giovanna Belle

dizzydixies · 14/11/2009 13:19

Giovanna Camille came to me in the middle of the night

dizzydixies · 14/11/2009 13:20

not that I'm a baby name obsessive or anything

AitchTwoToTangOh · 14/11/2009 18:44

pleeeeeease choose a family name, honestly, my dd1 loves that she's called after my grandma.

BabyDancer83 · 15/11/2009 03:10

Giovanna Sabine?
Make sure people know it's Joh-vanna and not Jee-o-varna!
dizzydixies I like Giovanna Camille too
AKMD is Mangifesta really a first name?

HeadFairy · 16/11/2009 10:45

Just catching up after v busy weekend...

Aitch, I really can't do anything that's too obviously family, my FIL is ridiculous and won't talk to us ever again (a bad thing?) if we choose a name that doesn't come from his family, but his family are a horrible bunch who've treated my dh terribly. My grandmother's name is Jacqueline which I really don't like. Her middle name is Mathilde which I quite like... my great grandmother was Julienne which is also pretty. I could try and sneak that in and just not tell the FIL

All my family will definitely pronounce Giovanna correctly because we're all either Italian or Argentine... it's everyone else I'd worry about

Dizzy - Camille is quite sweet, my mum keeps banging on about Camelia but I think that's just because she's an obssessive gardner
