Megan is a lovely name for a girl.

EB was Hitler's girlfriend....probably strikes a stronger chord in germany than the UK.

nomorebooze · 14/11/2009 17:56

thats the problem with loads of names you link them to a person either you dont like! or you know of for some other bizarre reason, but its enough to put you off. x

Wasn't she Hitler's girlfriend??!

I like your second choices. Evie and Alfie are done to death. Maisie or Isaac much better. What about Mabel? That's cute and no quite so err, common...

suwoo · 14/11/2009 18:30

You pg, secondcoming????

Jojay · 14/11/2009 18:44

Much prefer Megan and Jacob.

Evie and Alfie are SO popular that I think they will date and could easily become the Sharon and Darren of this generation.

But you know what I mean

They sound childish, which will be fine for a while, but I can't picture them on a grown-up.

I really don't like using ie abbreviations as proper on the birth certificate names. There are so many Alfie, Evie, Freddie and Millies around that it probably will sound normal by the time they're grown-up but it just makes me think why not call them Alfred, Eve, Frederick and Emily and let them decide if and how they want to shorten it?

Isaac and Jacob are lovely though

GrumpyYoungFogey · 15/11/2009 21:48

How do you delete messages?

On reflection I want to get rid of my post above?

suwoo · 15/11/2009 23:06

I was just going to comment on your post Grumpy with a .............
I do however agree with every word you said .

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 15/11/2009 23:18

Grumpy - You need to report yourself!

OP - There are so many Alfies and Evies around here, you could be forgiven for thinking the names were compulsory. I think that as you have a not-rare surname, it might be better to avoid the Top 20 first names. (And I agree with those who've said that if you're stuck on Alfie and Evie you should give the child a 'proper' name (Alfred, Evangeline or whatever) and keep Alfie or Evie as a nickname).

I love retro names like Mabel.

teameric · 15/11/2009 23:20

these a my DC's names so I love them obviously!

teameric · 15/11/2009 23:22

and I'm not insulted by anyones's posts either each to their own I say

suwoo · 15/11/2009 23:30

Yeah but are you called Gemma and is your mum called Sandra? thats what I want to know

teameric · 15/11/2009 23:33

nope, and I'm not lower middle class either whatever the fuck that has to do with anything.

nomorebooze · 16/11/2009 14:56

hi guys! some quite strong opinions on herenames are very personal, however i have changed my list, due to a friend calling her daughter evie last week etc. however i do feel some comments are quite insulting, not to me cos easy going and thankfull for true feelings and opinions, however im still taken aback about how insulting some peoples posts are!!!!!! on a lighter note!
thanks for all your thoughts we have know decided on
