I like it but would probably end up with the the pronunciation as May as I bet you have awful bother with telling people time and time again to pronounce it My instead of May

LilyBolero · 26/10/2009 16:15

hate it, sorry.

addictedtosuckingblood · 26/10/2009 16:16

lol, your probably right, but then i have an unusual name and have to correct people all the time so that doesnt bother me so much

addictedtosuckingblood · 26/10/2009 16:17

My dog is called Lilly .

onadietcokebreak · 26/10/2009 16:19

You will forever be telling people how to spell it and pronounce it.

Plus your DH hates it so it a non starter anyway.

Plus its a really popular name choice irrespective of how you spell it/say it

Heated · 26/10/2009 16:22

I like Lily.

What I would think, but wouldn't say, is that Lily-Mi/Mai as a hypenated 1st name is chavvy.

Sorry, am with your dh on this.

addictedtosuckingblood · 26/10/2009 16:25

CHAVVY!!! really. are all hypenated names chavvy then or does this one just sound it?

i think i'm going to have to let it drop i was hopiing you would all say that it was a really nice name and help me convince my dh.

I think people will say May. But more importantly, if hubby hates it, I think you should avoid. I am struggling for names myself, but if hubby doesn't like one, then it's a no goer. Same the other way round.

Incidentally, I do like the name, not sure I would have the guts to use it though...

Crapweasel · 26/10/2009 16:28

Lily May is a nice enough name (not clear if you would call her Lily/Lilly or do the hyphenated thing?). Both are very popular though if that bothers you (esp May as a middle name).

Personally I don't like your "alternative" spellings, sorry.

lovelybubbly · 26/10/2009 16:29

i think its a lovely name although i would adjust it to myi or mahi, to make it sound more like its supposed to be pronounced.

Heated · 26/10/2009 16:31

Am really sorry but imo all hypenated names are rather US trailer park. But maybe I'm a lone voice on this.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 26/10/2009 16:32

People will say May, that's what I thought when I first read it.

Lily May I quite like but it is very girly. What if you have a dd who isn't especially girly? Plus if your DH doesn't like it, it's a non starter really.

Disclaimer: I have boys so know nothing about girls names

belgo · 26/10/2009 16:33

Agree with Crapweasel.

It just sounds like you've taken a couple of very popular names and are trying too hard to make them original.

addictedtosuckingblood · 26/10/2009 17:07

i didnt realise lilly was an alternitive spelling (is lily the normal way of spelling it then?) and mai is a japanise name which i love.

its a good job i'm not pregnant, i think i'm going to have to do alot of research on names! it all sounds os complicated. i tjhought you just chose a name that you liked and gave it to your child.

OP posts:
sweetnitanitro · 26/10/2009 17:22

addicted- no, naming a child is exactly how you describe- pick a name you like and give it to your child. But you asked what everyone else thought and they told you

You do have to bear in mind things like pronunciation though, it's a drag having to correct people all the time (have given up correcting people about my surname). Also think about bullying potential but with Lilly Mai there isn't really much to go on.

Vivia · 27/10/2009 14:18

Just no.

ErikaMaye · 27/10/2009 14:20

"US trailer park"?

I like my name...

MmeGoblindt · 27/10/2009 14:21

I would have assumed that the parents were German on reading Lilly Mai as that is a common spelling there. Mai is the month of May, pronounced to rhyme with Pie

Cortina · 27/10/2009 15:00

I think there's a danger this sort of name will date. I know of lots of 'Lilianas' Leni-Maes, Lilly-Maes etc. Very noughties.

Jujubean77 · 27/10/2009 15:04

oh christ no

jeee · 27/10/2009 15:07

So this name's for a child yet to be conceived?

addictedtosuckingblood · 27/10/2009 15:14

jeee, that does seem strange when you say it like that, i'm fed up of talking about my mc and wanted to name the baby, we've both now decided on lilly rose.

i know it may seem odd, but saying mc all the time just makes it seem cold and unimportant, when it was the firthest thing from

OP posts:
MmeGoblindt · 27/10/2009 15:43

Lilly Rose is lovely, so very pretty.

I am sorry to hear about your mc. Take care of yourself.
