This was the name of a rich character in an old fashioned school story I read when I was a girl.

I absolutely loved this name when I was about 9, still do love it, but sadly OH vetoed it.

Anyone else heard of this name?

I think it has a lovely 1920s/30s glamorous feel to it.

I love the fact that you can't say it without sounding unbelievably drunk

And she kept on going on about having quads!

I think it sounds like something a kitchen worktop might be made of, sorry

JoeyBettany · 04/11/2009 21:23

Isn't it in "Orlando" (no, not the marmalade cat) as well?

JoeyBettany · 05/11/2009 14:01

I don't know but that would fit with the 1020s feel.

No, there's a male character named Shel. But there is a Euphrosyne! Now there's a name . . .

Marmaduke Bonthrop Shelmerdine - at least in the film version with Tilda Swinton. Now there are 3 names to conjure with ...
