Help me, help me!!! We have decided on Deegan...I dont like the 2 ee's but, it seems feminine! Help with spelling please!! His brother is Xander, I think they are kinda cool together, admittedly it IS hubby's pick!!!

Is Deegan made-up? Sorry, I don't like it at all. Sounds like a hokey Irish surname.

I love Ruby. Rose is predictable. Deegan is just awful.

I think that someone needs to clean up the Mumsnet Baby Name Finder. It seems to be full of really odd made up names. Surely people can make up names on their own?

There is a Slavic name Dejan or an ancient Near Eastern name Dagon.

Thanks though, i know not to play in here! For your etifaction: Deegan is a diminutive of Declan, which came from Deaglan in 5th century. It is an irish bishops name, 1 of the only 4 that preceded St Patrick!

I don't think Deegan looks feminine at all. I can't think of another spelling, perhaps Degan?

You did ask what people thought in your OP, and now you know what some people will think when you tell them your son's name is Deegan.

Doesn't mean you shouldn't use it.

Declan is much nicer IMO, since you asked.

I've never heard of Deegan as a diminutive of Declan (and I'm Irish). I would prefer Declan too, or Tegan, which has a similar sound. I wouldn't think of Deegan as feminine. I also don't think anyone called the name stupid?

I'm sorry, I don't like Deegan at all souds too err contrived (think that's the word I'm looking for).

I like Rose, not so keen on Ruby though.

Well if you'd said that in your OP you might have got a different response. I can't find Deegan in any of the name sites I usually use, and if you put either Deegan or Deagan into Google you only find surnames, so I don't think it is particularly unreasonable for people to think it isn't a name.

Deaglan is indeed Irish Gaelic, and if you are Irish a perfectly fine name. Doesn't really go with Rose or Ruby, which are pretty mainstream at the moment though.

I like commenting on names in this section, but I think you can only really play here knowing that not everyone will like the names you are thinking about, and if you ask for opinions then you will get them.

The usual advice is that once you have decided on a name not to tell anyone until your baby has arrived and you have registered the name.
