Are these names quite similar? Is it inevitable that Oscar will reach Oliver's level of popularity?

Which do you prefer and why?

I like both names, but as a friend and my cousin both have Oscars, my 3 week old DS is an Oliver. I think it's a name that can fit any child and any adult, plus it'll suit him when he's older. both lovely names though!

I know loads of Oscars under 2, very popular in my area so I would go for Oliver on that basis.

I prefer Oscar and don't like the nickname Ollie for Oliver.

3 Olivers in DS2's year (only 20-odd boys as well).

DS1 has 1 Oliver. DD none now.

Between us and among all the children we know there is one Oscar.

Not sure that proves much

Like both names tho.

Love them both and they were the final two on our shortlist for DS. He was Oscar for most of my pregnancy. My Dad considered Oscar a really wacky name and after a huge argument handed me a truly bizarre list of his prescribed favourites (Alan, Keith et al). In the end we decided against Oscar and plumped for Oliver because our surname is quite similar to Wilde and I think I also like the 3 syllable thing. I was convinced Ollie's would be 10 a penny but in fact he's never had another in is class and there were 3 Oscars at his nursery. He's thrilled if he ever meets another Oliver in the park etc. Good luck with whichever you choose - you clearly have astounding taste!

I like both names but if your worried about popularity I think you'll find quite a few of them in the class at school of both names

oscar especially is getting very popular! and oliver is a classic name so is always popular.

but if popularity isn't a worry then I think they are both lovely names

I like Oscar. No I LOVE Oscar. Totally cool name. Jacob would have been a little Oscar. Had he not been a Jacob....

Oliver! Love it. Yes I have one so biased but that's cos I loved it! Oscar is a bit cat ish to me and lacks the 'solidity' of Oliver IMO.

I am seriously concidering Oscar for my little boys name i am due in feb and am really trying to persaude my OH but he will not have it atm.
