"Kitty" Beatrice Lydia

We're expecting a baby girl, she is going to be Katharine Beatrice, Kitty for short. I would really like to add Lydia as this is my best friend's name - I am an only child and she has been the closest thing to a sibling so it has great sentimental value.
DH thinks that 3 names is unneccessary - but then so is a middle name anyway. Katharine is non negotiable as it is a family name and I love Kitty too much

sorry, forgot to say the point - is 3 names now redundant or do you think it is nice ?

I love all three names - just lovely I agree that two middles can sound fussy or spoil the flow of a name overall but I don't see that with Katharine Beatrice Lydia.
I think if there's sentimetal value there it can never be an 'unnecessary' name. It's also not as though your DD will be introduced/introducing herself with her three names except ceremonially so it's not like it's an everyday tongue-twister.

My DD has two middle names, largely because her paternal great-gradmother died shortly before she was born and so we decided to use her name as a second middle - she was so excited about her first GGC.

Why not just go for Katharine Lydia?

Personally,I like Lydia the best from the three names.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 11/10/2009 09:49

Katharine Lydia Beatrice flows better IMO.

girlsyearapart · 11/10/2009 09:50

my niece is kitty i love it!

3 names is a bit ott/royal familyish.

agree with diddl

SanctimoniousTeeTotalPrig · 11/10/2009 09:51

My dd has two middle names, one of which is Beatrice. One of them is for DH's granny who he was very close to and the other name is SIL's middle name, again, dh is very close to her.

Lovely names. Katharine in particular is beautiful and I do prefer that spelling.

allaboutme · 11/10/2009 09:53

Katharine Beatrice is beautiful and I love Kitty as a nn.
Lydia is also a lovely name. It does sound a bit of a mouthful having the 2 middle names, but it doesnt sound ridiculous and the others are right - you very rarely say all your names together after the initial birth announcement so why not? it seems to have been chosen for a lovely reason, your friend will be chuffed

Fibilou · 11/10/2009 10:13

STT, I will tell you how that came about - my Mum sent my Dad down to the registry office to register my birth with a note saying I was Fiona Katherine. My Dad is not the best speller in the world and even with the note still spelt it wrong ! I love the little tale that goes with my middle name and how it so sums my Dad up. I only recently discovered that one of my fave actresses, Katharine Hepburn was an A rather than an E

I always thought it was Katharine and Catherine, anyway!

I think it's fine, as everyone says it's not like you use all 3 in everyday conversation. Lovely names too.

pureeandpearls · 11/10/2009 21:05

I think it's beautiful- Kitty a lovely shortening of Katharine and the tow middle names run together well. We are fans of two middle names here: have Cecily Jean Olivia nd expecting Violet Vivienne Grace or Theodore Frederick Grafton.

hester · 11/10/2009 21:13

3 names is fine, given that you won't use them in practice.

I have to say, though, Lydia is by far my favourite of your names - love it, love it.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 11/10/2009 21:17

I love Lydia as well - have suggested it many times on here.

Katherine is nice too. I like Kitty, but IMO it is a nn

Will the middle name you value lose it's impact if you have two middle names ? Could you bear to drop Beatrice ?

mwff · 11/10/2009 21:22

i have 3 names, tis perfectly respectable it also allowed me to selectively drop the ones i wasn't so keen on at strategic moments. i think your choices are beautiful and flow well in either order. i also have a kitty so am terribly biased in favour (although it might be as well to be aware it's becoming increasingly popular, in case you weren't already).

Toffeepopple · 19/10/2009 13:31

Most of the men in our family have two middle names. They seem to drop and pick them up at will.

gladders · 20/10/2009 10:14

3 names is fine IMO.

I am a Katharine (although my spelling is even more obscure). has been the bane of my life getting people to spell it properly. to be honest, I wouldn't wish it on anyone - especially if you want to call her kitty anyway.

Jujubean77 · 20/10/2009 10:28

Oh I love your choice in names - Beatrice not so sure of- but the others GORGEOUS

Kathyis12feethighandbites · 20/10/2009 10:31

I like it, very Pride & Prejudice (there isn't a Beatrice in that but Kitty and Lydia are two of the sisters)

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 20/10/2009 11:13

I have 2 middle names and I love it. It makes email addresses very easy also. We gave DD two middle names for that reason.

Beautiful names as well

persephoneplum · 20/10/2009 11:42

I love the three names - not over the top at all and just a lovely sentiment for your friend. No doubt it will mean the world to her

Caro1302 · 21/10/2009 20:43

I'm biased as DD is Lydia Mary Kate. The names you've chosen are beautiful and I obviously approve of both the Lydia and the 3 names!

pranma · 21/10/2009 20:48

I have 3 and I think yours sound lovely
