My husband says Stefan is not a sensible name.

I say it is.

I also say that Stefan Montgomerie Matthews (surname not exact but similar) is a perfectly workable name.

If I kill him due to "boys name suggestions ridiculousness", there isn't a judge in the world would send me down, is there...??

i would assume that a stefan had a cultural link.

montgomerie? is that part of the surname example? if not its all all a bit convoluted and pretentious

I think it's a sensible name....much nicer than Steven/Stephen

No, no cultural link - we are both pretty much 100% scottish (Well, I'm 25% Irish but nothing exotic and I'm not Irish enough to carry off an obviously Irish name)- I like it as a name.

Montgomerie is a "set in stone" boys middle name for various reasons. I do feel it would be slightly pretentious and thats why I really don;t want to promote it to 1st name...

Stephen was as original choice and I thought it would be "easier" for Dh as its more conventional - it was rejected as well.

Stefan is common in Sweden and Germany and a perfectly sensible and nice name.

So what are his suggestions then?

I like Montgomery ! I think it's a lovely name - yes a bit on the pretentious side but probably only because it's underused. I was sat last night contemplating it as a middle name for DS2, who is a James.

I love Stefan. I would definitely consider it for future DS.

I can't see why it's not sensible? It's one of those pan-European names like Anna and Alex which imo isn't linked to any country specifically but a classic in many countries.

Stefan is a lovely name....Is the Montgomerie spelling set it stone, I much prefer the slightly more 'manly' Montgomery!!!!

Is anyone else frantically trying to work out what surname is "similar" to Matthews???? These kind of things take up my whole day.

I know a Stefan, and he is assuredly the kindest, most thoughtful and most sensible man I know. (excepting DH!)Therefore, Stefan, for me is definitely a sensible name!

The Montgomerie spelling is set in stone as it is after someone so we can't really change it...("We called Dc after you but we decided we didn't like your spelling....")..

I really like Stefan. DH was working in Norway when this child was conceived and he has picked a Norwegian name as the middle name if we have a girl (not a common Norwegian name, maybe not even a very Norwegian name but it was the name of one of the Norwegian girls in the office he worked in and he really liked it)....so I don't see why we can't consider other "pan european"/Scandanavian names...

He has NO suggestions at all. The only name he can come up woith is Charlie which he "hates least"....

Surname is shared with Eminem but pronounced with a harder "a" sound...
