What are your thoughts? A nicer name than Joy and I think we had a Great Granny with the name so it must have been in circulation at some point?

Quite like but could it be hard to live up to/too much opportunity for teasing?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Someone in a Jackie Collins (modern equivalent) novel. I would move away from the heavenly names like Serafina and Bliss. What if she grows up to be an enormous hairy old dyke?

MmeLindt · 01/10/2009 15:43

Not my cup of tea, I am afraid. Sounds a bit twee.

What if she turns out to be a grumpy wee soul?

Sidge · 01/10/2009 15:47

I know of a Bliss.

Sisters called Ocean and Precious.

Not my cup of tea but then I like more 'serious' names.

dizzydixies · 01/10/2009 15:48

only in dodgy rap songs I imagine

Bondwife · 01/10/2009 17:31

I know of a little girl called Liberty Bliss - quite original I thought

MmeLindt · 01/10/2009 17:32

Liberty Bliss is sweet. It is quite cute as a middle name.

Disenchanted3 · 01/10/2009 17:33

"be an enormous hairy old dyke?"
Nice choice of phrase there

ProfYaffle · 01/10/2009 17:35

I've heard of a little girl called Bliss. I think it's quite nice.

hullygully · 01/10/2009 17:39

Dis - thank you. I thought it had a certain ring to it.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 01/10/2009 17:41

We have friends with Bliss as their surname.

Not sure as a first name though.

WhereYouLeftIt · 01/10/2009 17:48

Recently heard it in an episode (Love and Monsters) of Doctor Who - human, female, pretty, absorbed by Peter Kay's green skinned Absorbalov ...

GrendelsMum · 01/10/2009 17:49

Personally I'm quite turned on by the thought of an enormous hairy dyke called Bliss.

MaryBS · 01/10/2009 17:52

Bliss is the name of a prem. baby charity, thats what came to mind. Don't think I'd saddle my kid with a name like that, would cause too many problems and teasing.

LaaDeDa · 01/10/2009 17:55

Yes, a few years ago. It was Bliss-Ella. Actually suited the little girl but i'm not totally struck on it.

mathanxiety · 01/10/2009 19:43

Bliss would end up as Blister, although it's a nice name, imo.

janeite · 01/10/2009 19:46

Dreadful.

Joy is lovely. Or Faith, Honour, Constance, Hope - something like that.

southeastastra · 01/10/2009 19:48

yes i knew one once, it's quite nice, don't mind it

lucky1979 · 01/10/2009 23:22

She might get nicknamed Blister pretty rapidly. On the upside she wouldn't have to have a stage name if she became a stripper

nooka · 02/10/2009 02:20

I'm afraid i associate it with both sex and drugs, so not a name I'd be giving a little girl. I don't like virtue names (not that bliss is a virtue anyway - much too free and easy!).

simplesusan · 02/10/2009 13:02

Yes I do know one. It is actually her middle name but her parents call her Bliss.
It did seem strange at first but we have got used to it.

thedolly · 02/10/2009 13:14

I'm with nooka, there is something 'sexual' about the word/name Bliss - sorry.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/10/2009 13:16

weird, I like Liberty Bliss but not Bliss on its own as a first name

pagwatch · 02/10/2009 13:18

Bliss is a lap dancer.

But that is the way my head works

angel1976 · 02/10/2009 20:18

I never thought of it as a proper name tbh but came across it for the first time today as a name while reading this sad article about stillbirth and I thought what a beautiful name and how appropriate. So am loving it at the moment...

ManicMother7777 · 02/10/2009 20:26

I think there was a woman in Dynasty called Bliss. Really don't like it sorry.
