What do you think of Luther?

What do you think of Luther as a boy's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

My DP admired a footballer and a comic book hero called Luther and wants to name our baby after them! I am starting to warm to it though and like the fact that it is very unusual yet still sounds like a proper name.

well it does sound like a proper name
just a proper surname

not for me, but I appear to be in danger of naming this one John so do not trust me on unusual names.

I know one IRL who is probably pushing 40 now.

He's pretty posh. Quite like the name.

Associated previously with Martin Luther King.

Probably prefer Lucian.

FWIW, those are the names that came to mind - in that order!

I love the name, but then again I studied history and was a big fan of Luther and his 95 Theses, Reformation....

Well, yes... but why the name of a baddie? Didn't he try to kill Superman in so many ocassions?

What about Clark instead? (that if Superman is a bit too much, of course)

It made me think of Superman (the Christopher Reeve version) & Lex Luthor I'm afraid, sorry.

Because baddies are cool! That's partly why I like Lucius too.

I'm reading lots of daft historic novels at the mo, so it just makes me think of the religious radical. And then Luther Vandross of course.
