Hello

So DP has announced his new fav baby name for expected dc2, who is definitely all boy

He wants Julian, nickname Jules...

what do you think? I am beyond caring right now I have just given up trying to find a boys name I love so will settle for one that I like and DP likes. It's important to me that it translates well in Spanish and French.. I don't dislike it so far but I'm not sure...

Is it too camp/frilly/girly? Is he going to be teased? Am I going to feel silly shouting his name out in the park..?

honest opinions please!

Thanks

I like it, but the 'Julie Ann' thing would make me a run a mile.
Many other threads on MN about names that work in English and Spanish.

@crumpette may I please ask if you ever went with Julian? If so, how did it turn out? Does he love his name? Its my absolute favorite for our son due next month but DH not keen. Thanks in advance x

OP's baby's peer group have only just been, or are about to be, born, so they're not going to have heard of Julian Clary and are unlikely to, as he's fallen off the mainstream radar. There's not going to be a "camp" association with the name for them.

They'll also probably not think of Julie Ann as a girl's name, because who's called those names now?

I think it's a great name, and the name of an especially lovely person I know.
"Julian" is pertaining to Julius Caesar. Come on, that's cool!

@PrudenceDictates really great points! Thank you xx

It’s a no from me. I always think it sounds a bit wet and a bit posh. Although the last Julian I met was really nice.

Actually, OP’s baby’s peer group are now around 14. Probably still haven’t heard of Julian Clary, though. 😁

hate Julian, loves Jules.

Sunshinemum12 · 18/07/2023 15:47

@RustyBear yes, was hoping to get a future insight from someone who'd lived with the name for a little while. Though @PrudenceDictates points really helpful to me as my bub not yet born! X

Tastes change and Julian has become quite popular the past couple ofyears

Of the Jule names I prefer Julius - Jules.
Another isea for your DH is to choose a first name starting with J and use Julius or Ulrich as a second name and use the nick name Jules.

James Ulrich Surname - Jules
Julius Alexander Surname - Jules
Joel Julius Surname - Jules
Jack Julius Surname -Jules
Jasper Ulrich Surname - Jules

@user1492757084 thank you, that's a good idea too and DH favourite name is on your list!
