Is Astrid cool or cruel?

I've posted about Astrid before a while back (Astrid vs. Ingrid), so sorry if you saw that. DH had vetoed it on the grounds of the teasing/bullying potential of 'ass', but at the last minute has changed his mind (I have less than a week to go - hopefully!) Now I'm wavering slightly although I think I prefer it to Ingrid, still our only alternative. What do people think?

Maybe Astrid is an old lady name in Sweden...

VAB - boys names are hard. Ours are Magnus (can you see a theme?) and Evan, but not as sure about either of these as we were about DS's name.

Astrid is lovely. And cool.

My French cousin has an Astrid, I love the name.

BonsoirAnna · 25/09/2009 18:17

Astrid is much cooler than Ingrid. But I still think that your child needs a certain personality to pull it off!

MintyCane · 25/09/2009 18:25

love it

KM, I believe it's MN etiquette to alert someone you know in RL to the fact you've accidentally identified them! I zoomed in on this thread because Astrid is near the top of my list too, but my only reservation is exactly the same as yours, and lo and behold, c'est toi! ... I do remember you mentioning you liked the name before, actually, and I've always loved it too, possibly due to the cool 1960s connection ...

Um, how can I cryptically get you to work out who I am??!?? Does the date 18 April 2000 mean anything to you?? Hee hee. My kids are L & M. And yikes!, no.3 is due next May.

Hope you're feeling well ? in your last week ? OMG! Would love to see a pic once the wee one arrives. And hope you spot this as the thread's a few days old now ? or maybe you're already in labour!

AstridandMagnusMama · 25/09/2009 21:19

Vicar... do I know you?

It is absolutely cool btw

I also have a Magnus!

janeite · 25/09/2009 21:23

It is v cool. My dd1 says it is the best name she can think of and she wants it to be her name! A and M's mum - hello you! How's life?

AstridandMagnusMama · 25/09/2009 21:54

hectic!

KleineMaus · 25/09/2009 22:20

Scarlett yes it's me, incredibly well-spotted! How did you guess? I don't think I'd have remembered the date we started work if you hadn't said. Congratulations on being pregnant with number three! I hope you guys are all well. Just been for a curry in the hope of kick-starting things, but not getting my hopes up too much. I'll e-mail you and let you know.

Astridandmagnusmama - I wish I was contemplating a third so that I could have a Magnus and an Astrid too, but alas I'll probably only have one or the other.

I know one, called Asti. I love it.

sonniebonnie · 27/09/2009 20:30

Personally I find the sound of Astrid a little 'harsh' and not particularly feminine.

On the other hand I like the fact that Astrid is a little 'unusual' and makes a welcome change from all the Grace's, Ella's and Isabella's around us.

If you like it, I'd go for it!
