Our top 6 baby boy names......

Our baby boy is due 22/12 and we think we have a final list of 6 but we have decided not to choose one until he is born and have various thoughts on all:
In no particular order;

Charlie/Charles - have always liked this but now concerned its a bit common/chavvie ? (Charlie more than Charles). Would be Charles on birth certificate and called both....

George - wondering if its getting quite popular now, good solid name.

William - only problem is that our surname begins with a C so his initials, not counting middle names would be W.C .....

Harry - too popular ?

Henry - not sure and again getting too popular, also Harry is short for Henry ??

Oscar - recent addition to the list but seems this is getting quite common too, also is it a bit pretentious ?

Any thoughts ?

From your list I like William, Henry and George. All solid, classic names.

I agree that Charlie, Harry and Oscar have become a little 'trendy' and may age more than the others.

George is the only one I like. The rest are very popular. There are loads of Charlies and Harrys at the toodler groups I go to.

Those are all quite popular names at the moment.

I like Oscar a lot, but there are a lot around.

Like all the names MooJoo, especially Henry and William.

Don't really get the point of asking if it's too popular. If you like it you like it.

Would you really negatively judge someone because they had a traditional, yet popular, name? I wouldn't. And I wouldn't judge the parents either.

George is my favourite.

I really don't like Henry at all. Harry is ok. IT'll be the new Barry/Gary in 20 years time.

Give him the name you like and stop concerning yourself with "whatever the neighbours might say" about Charlie being 'chavvy'/

I like them all -- yes, Harry is a pet name form of Henry. W.C. is a bit unfortunate.

I love Henry or Henri that's what I have on my list. I also like Louie

I think Charles is a nice name, and Charlie is fine for a nick-name.

George is, like you say, a good, solid name so would be a great choice.

William is fab! Not many of them about. I wouldn't worry about the initial thing.

Harry and Henry are popular now but are good names.

Oscar is a name that I really dislike as it has become so well-used by people thinking it is 'different'.

So, my order of preference is: William, George, Charles, Henry, Harry, Oscar.

Just talking about that to dp given it isn't 'shorter' he said he thinks it's a scottish thing.

Yes Harry is pet name for Henry (cf Henry VIII, known as Prince Harry or Prince Hal, so it's been around for a while).

Prince Harry as in Prince Charles's son is actually called Henry.

But plenty of Harrys around as name in its own right now.

I like all yr names, tho they are all relatively popular (I only know one Oscar, but quite a few of the others) - not in the James/Matthew/Oliver/Joe stakes tho).

FWIW my fav is Harry but you could call him Henry and have the nn Harry so that you get both names. My least fav is Oscar, but that's because I know LOADS of dogs called Oscar!

Charlie/Charles - love My godson has this name and nn Charlie, and it really suits him.

George - again I like

William - another name I like lots; Will as nn

Harry - Like; probably popular because it is nice

Henry - ok, but I prefer the others on your list

Oscar - I quite like this

Charlie/Charles - I am not that keen.. reminds me of someone being 'abit of a charlie' or some phrase like that. Very popular too.

George - not that keen, no idea why. Very popular too.

William - I am not keen on this, don't like Billy or Willy either but Will is OK.

Harry - I like this but it is also very popular. Popular names seem boring eventually.

Henry - OK, this is not as popular as the others i don't think. Don't like Hen for short though.

Oscar - OK but very popular near me.

I like Charlie as a nn for Charles but not keen on Charles. I can see what you mean about the "chav" connection that wouldn't put me off but if you are thinking along those lines then perhaps you shouldn't choose it.

George - Good solid name.

William - There are hundreds and hundreds around here. Not personally keen.

Harry - I like it, I have only come across one!

Henry - I don't like, much prefer Harry.

Oscar - Never liked the name. It used to be a little pretentious but I think the Eastenders connection is moving it the other way.

Winston Churchill had the initials WC.
Oscar : The grouch on Seseme Street American TV show, just puts me off a lot. I don't know any.
I guess the others are okay. All reasonably 'ordinary' and universal (they are common across social groups, I tend to prefer ordinary names myself).

Oh I like the traditional kings names !
Charles/Charlie and James/Jamie are on my list
I know they are popular but they are also classic like Elizabeth.
I also like Edward.
I'm least keen on Harry/Henry of the kings names and I don't like Oscar, too poncy for my taste!
