open to suggestions- boys names

Still a couple months to go but the fact I thought I was having a girl who turns out to be a boy means I am already panicking about names! I had my perfect girly names picked!

So far names considered are:

James
Nicholas
Laurence/Lawrence
Lucian

but nothing is really jumping out at me, it's relatively important to me that the name can translate well as I speak Spanish and poor kid may hopefully be dragged to various locations worlwide, so for this reason I am not overly keen on James as I don't particularly like any of the Spanish forms of the name.

hey crumpette. My brother's sugestions for boys names were conan and caligula...personally I'm thinking no. I like Jared, but can't use it cos I'm a stickler for not using the same initials as myself and DH. Lucian's good tho.

I don't much like James either (every other teenage boy around here is called James) but the others are nice. I don't speak Spanish so am just assuming that saints' names will translate, but how about

Gabriel?
Alexander (I love Alejandro)

I like Lawrence and Lucian, but the other two are a bit blah.

Thanks for suggestions, I love Alejandro/Alexander too but DP has vetoed due to his belief that I had an ex by that name! Also love Sebastian but DP said 'no way' and Oliver but my DD had liver transplants so Oliver seems a bit wrong!

Heh, when I was pg I really saw myself having a girl. Now that I'm the mother of a 1yo boy, I couldn't imagine it any other way!

I live in Mexico, so when choosing names for my DS we went through many options including

Manuel (can be Manu; as I think Manuel is Manu Chao´s full name. Obviously you don't have to be a fan of Fawlty Towers...)

My Ds is James. I DD2 had been a boy she would have been Nicholas. I think Nicky is a lovely nn for a little boy.

I also really like Gabriel.

Your DP does know that Sebastian is really popular at the moment, doesn't he? It's not some esoteric name. But if he doesn't like it, he doesn't like it.

I love James but agree on the Spanish translations not being great. What about Matthew (my son's name) or something like Rafael if you fancy something a bit more exotic?

I wouldn't go for Emilio if there is a chance you are going to stay in England. I don't like Lucian but love love love Julian. Not a name you hear often though, which could be a good thing.

Laurence is the best imho - I love it!
