Josie for a girl? What about a boy?

Due on Tuesday.

I think we have agreed on Josie if we have a girl.

Can not agree on ANYTHING for a boy.
We liked Thomas, but we are Scottish and don't want people to call him Tam (they will). It has to go with the middle name Douglas (family name) and surname Anderson. We couldn't use Douglas for a first as i really don't like it that much and he would be called Dougie lol.

Our ds is called Noah, not that it matters really, but something that fits with his name would be good.

So what do you think about Josie and can you help with boys names?

Why not Joseph if you like Josie?

I like Joseph, but dp says it is too biblical as we already have a Noah. He said no to Benjamin for the same reason.

I don't think people would think that you chose both Noah and Joseph to be biblical, just that they are both nice names.

if you like Joseph do you also like the name James?

I like Josie. DD2 was almost Josephine shortened to Josie but we went with Elizabeth shortened to Lizzie.

What about Matthew? That always seems similar to Thomas in my mind. Also follows the biblical origins of Noah. James Anderson is nice too but more popular. My DS is James and so far (he's 5) nobody has ever attemped to shorten it or call him Jamie or Jim. A bit left field but how about John? I met a baby John the other day and thought how unusual it now was. John Douglas Anderson sounds very posh.

Both my brother and DPs dad are James, we did speak about it but the family seems to be made up of John, James and David lol and all the woman are Elizabeth/liz/betty/bess.

Matthew is nice! Never crossed my mind before, but it is lovely.

Oh I love Tam. Josie is lovely. Daniel is another one like Thomas. Look at the back of a Thomas the Tank Engine book, there are loads of ideas on there!

I know Thomases in Scotland who are just called Thomas. But I suppose you know your area best .

My DD is a Josephine known as Josie - she also gets Jo-Jo, Jo-Ji, J-so (like J-Lo)and Jose. It's lovely, hope you have a girl!

Dogonpoints - do you think it is just men that are called Tam? What about at high school? We have a friend who's dad gets called 'Big Tam'. And i went to school with a boy called Thomas who changed to Tam as soon as he hit high school, now his FB name is Tom though.
Is it an area thing? What kind of area would use Tam more?

erm.. well, can't say I've ever thought about thte name Tam in too much depth . Are you Scottish?

I expect it could be a phase and that some boys switch to Tam in high school and maybe it sticks. I don't know. And some areas might just have quite a few blokes called Tam so it becomes more common.

Fear of teh nickname Tam wouldn't put me off using the name Thomas.

LOL yes i am Scottish and live in Scotland.
So he could be Thomas until high school then Tam the teenager for a few years..maybe.

I tell you what I think would sound good together - Noah and Billy. Fantastic. William shortened to Billy. Love it.

Daniel is really nice too. Oo i don't know, might just stick with Thomas... or maybe Matthew. I am due tomorrow so hopefully i can decide by the time the baby comes (hopefully tomorrow LOL).
Buck - a friend of ours just had a boy and named him Lochlan, think that is how it is spelled anyway, very nice. I'd never heard it before.

I am from Dundee although don't live there now and you would definately get Tam and Rab for Robert. My fil is David and it always come out sounding like Davit.

Thomas is my favourite (ds1's name)
