Like Iris and Minna on your list. We have very differwnt taste in names though.

MistergodthisisSal · 13/09/2009 21:26

I like Iris a little, but none of the others.

My favourite names are seen as boring / horrendous by most some others though, so I think if you're sure about a certain name, just go for it. Uhm, except perhaps Bellatrix, which sounds like there should be dungeons involved in later years...

TotallyUnheardOf · 14/09/2009 02:21

Araminta (Minty for short): LOATHE (desperately, desperately posh... only use if you're going to send her to Cheltenham Ladies' College)
Amethyst: LOATHE but possibly slightly prejudiced by fact that my dd can't say her 'th' sounds, so would say it like 'I'm a fist'!
Belle: LOATHE (Have you never seen Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast'?)
Bellatrix: LOATHE (means 'warmonger'... asking for trouble, IMO)
Camelia: INDIFFERENT, prefer Camille, which is lovely IMO.
Daphne: LOVE
Dahlia: LOATHE
Delphine (Delphi for short): LOATHE (unless you are French, in which case it's OK, but without the Greek-sounding nickname)
Dove: LOATHE
Emmeline: INDIFFERENT (kind of approve of the sentiment behind it, but couldn't quite bring myself to inflict it on a child)
Iris: LOVE
Isadora: LOATHE
Mabel: LOVE
Minna: INDIFFERENT
Marigold: LOATHE (rubber gloves)
Magnolia: LOATHE (paint colour)
Pearl: LOVE
Peridot: LOATHE
Penelope: LOVE (is the name of a very good friend; everyone calls her Penny, but I call her Poppy and she likes both)
Seraphine: LOATHE
Sunny: LOATHE (too hippy)
Tabitha: LOATHE (cat's name)
Xanthe: LOVE
Zora: LOATHE

Sorry to be so negative, but there are some lovely names here among the ones I don't like... My favourite here is Pearl.

Allets · 14/09/2009 03:03

Araminta (Minty for short) NOOOOOO
Amethyst - Not my cup of tea (NMCOT), quite pretentious
Belle - OK, could be a good 2nd name.
Bellatrix - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Camelia - Pretty
Daphne - Pretty
Dahlia - NMCOT, but nothing wrong with it.
Delphine (Delphi for short) - I like Delphine, but not Delphi (changes the name from one with pretty and soft connotations to one with a harsh god-like connotation)
Dove NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Emmeline - Pretty
Iris - Pretty
Isadora - NMCOT
Mabel - NMCOT
Minna - NMCOT
Marigold - NMCOT
Magnolia - NMCOT
Pearl - NMCOT
Peridot - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Penelope - Pretty
S eraphine - Pretty
Sunny - Lovely little girls name, not sure how well it would translate in an office setting.
Tabitha - Pretty
Xanthe - NMCOT
Zora - NOOO

SomeGuy · 14/09/2009 03:24

Is this a joke? Surely nobody could name their child Bellatrix, which is either a poisonous plant or a Death Eater. As for suggesting that your child be named minty, as if she were a tube of toothpaste - the mind boggles.

Iris is not bad though.

justbeenforapromenade · 14/09/2009 13:11

Gosh jellybeans, we could have been separated at birth! Which names DO you like if you don't mind my asking

Bellatrix means 'Female Warrior' and is the name of a constellation, which I think is rather strong and lovely. It's only the Harry Potter connotations which turn people off and the 'trix' bit which can also be found in Beatrix. I have to admit it was something of a wild card.

I also really love the name Velvet, but know that would not go down well either.

jellybeans · 14/09/2009 14:54

Hi I quite like Isadora and Belle off your list but didn't 'love' them so had to say indifferent! Names are just so personal, so don't want to offend. I think most of your names are just abit too brave for me but they are perfectly fine if you like them
