Thoughts - boy's name, middle name Scott, surname Scottish

We have another boy on the way - already agreed is Scott for a middle name and our surname is a McX surname.

We already have one DS who's name is Scottish, and this time we'd agreed that as I'm Welsh, it would be a Welsh name.

DH doesn't want anything too Welsh as he feels that if it's not obvious how it's pronounced or spelt, then DS2 will suffer.

On the table so far is:
Dylan
Morgan
Ioan

Anyone got any good suggestions?

I do like Morgan and Dylan.
Thomas was my Welsh Grandfather's name and Llewellyn my cousin's but thats a bit OTT perhaps for your Dh.

Is Ryan Welsh?

no thoughts for middle name but DS2's middle name is Scott.......although I guess you could always go for the shortened version of DS1's name.......which is the name he insists on being known at atm............Taffy

Dylan is gorgeous!

Oh I love Ioan.(Ioan Gryffud yum)

Bit crap on Welsh names, can only contribute Rhys or David.

Still loving Ioan.

Morgan and Dylan, whilst pleasant enough are geting very popular.

I also ADORE Aneurin (Sp)

tho you would deffo have to be Welsh to get away with it.

Huw? Evan?

scarlotti · 12/09/2009 08:29

Thanks mavis - I went to school with Ioan Gruffydd - yes, very yum

We already have an Anuera in the family.

I do like Morgan and Dylan, but yes the popularity is increasing and it doesn't help that Morgan is Bianca's child in Eastenders!!

DH likes Ioan but is worried nobody will be able to pronounce it or spell it - we don't live in Wales

My Dad is welsh, he is called Lyndon which I quite like.

As a Scot who now lives in Wales I don't think the Scots will cope with Ioan. To a non welsh speaker it either looks like an anagram of Iona or loan as in a bank loan.
I do like Dylan but it will be pronounced Dillan and I've learnt that the Welsh pronounce it Dull-an (but they pronounce most names differently to how I would anyway)
I do like Dylan though, more than Morgan.
What about Rhys - easy enough to say ?
Will now think about all the welsh male names I know!

found this list of Welsh boys names most of which I have never heard of before!
