Hello, I'm due with my 1st baby in 4 weeks and although I think we are settled on a girls name, boys are seeming more difficult.
For a girl, we have Eliza May, and on the boys list are:

Arthur
Stanley
Sidney
Gabriel
Gideon
Zander

We both like the top 3, although I can see a baby-10 year old with the name, but not a teenager, and then it seems to suit again when they're in their 20's.

What does everyone think? I also need to find middle names. I don't really see the point, but my partner really wants one. Surname is Saunders, so if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

I love your girl name choice

From the boys, I think Gideon is nice. I like Zander, but only as a nn of Alexander - I just personally prefer full names than nicknames for kids.

I'm not all that keen on the old-fashioned name re-surge although I know they are really popular at the moment.

Have fun deciding!

MrsVik · 11/09/2009 16:31

Sorry, me again - having said that about old names, I could definitely imagine a teen with the nn 'Art' for Arthur. So maybe not all bad

LaDiDaDi · 11/09/2009 16:46

I like your top three boys names, I'm currently trying to persuade dp to go with Arthur for this baby.

crumpette · 11/09/2009 17:10

Arthur- Nice
Stanley- no opinion really (how useless is that comment!? )
Sidney- nope
Gabriel- nice
Gideon- sounds like a goose
Zander- Zander Saunders is simply cruel. Alexander Saunders is nice

thus I like:Arthur/Gabriel/Alexander from your list

diddl · 11/09/2009 17:14

Don´t like the top three boys names, and don´t think that Zander goes with Saunders.

So that´s Gabriel and Gideon for me.
Does your hubby have a suitable first or middle name to use as a middle name?

Gabriel William?

Gideon James?

DoneWithCrying · 11/09/2009 17:41

Arthur and Stanley are ok but not too keen on the others tbh.

Alfie Saunders is sweet.

Love your choice of girls name.

Good luck

pasturesnew · 11/09/2009 17:53

I really like Arthur (Art), Stanley (Stan) and Sidney (Sid).

Middle names I think fit well all have 1 syllable e.g.

Arthur John (I like the idea of poss. nn "AJ" even if that is a bit boy band)

Stanley George

Sidney James (oops no that's the Carry On actor isn't it?) erm Sidney Charles?

simplesusan · 11/09/2009 20:08

I like Gabriel and Zander but agree with crumpett-it does not go with your surname, so Gabriel for me.

thisisyesterday · 11/09/2009 20:13

love Arthur, Sidney, Gabriel

Stanley is getting really popular now, although I suppose Gabriel is too in some places.
I have a Gabriel though, so think it's a fab name

like Zander, but would spell is Xander. agree it sounds not great with Saunders though

Gideon? tis ok don't love it though

Lilyloo · 11/09/2009 20:14

Stanley is the nicest

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 20:14

I love Gabriel.

I don't like the others though Zander is ok but looks better when spelled as Xander I think and not Zander as in the fish.

I detest Stanley.

pranma · 11/09/2009 21:18

Arthur Gideon Saunders sounds good

sweetkitty · 11/09/2009 21:24

Gabriel

Pyrocanthus · 11/09/2009 21:45

And Gabriel.

MamaLazarou · 12/09/2009 09:44

Arthur - great name
Stanley - ditto
Sidney - don't be so silly
Gabriel - Or 'Gay' for short
Gideon - A bit daft
Zander - My DH, reading over my shoulder, nearly cried laughing at this suggestion.

posieparker · 12/09/2009 09:47

Arthur...love it
Stanley....; love it but very popular where I live
Sidney.... super
Gabriel.. love it and really love Gabe
Gideon... I don't know
Zander...not for me.

1stTimeMama · 12/09/2009 11:09

I'm glad the girl's name is a hit!

diddl, hubby's name is Mark Peter, named after 2 of the disciples, his family is quite religious, so Gabriel (I like Gabe, for those who mentioned it!) and Gideon would fit there.

You're all right about Zander, it's a bit of a mouthful, huh?!

DWC - I have a nephew called Alfie, so that's a no go.

Thanks all for your suggestions!

This whole name thing is tough!
