not my choice

prefer Iola

but quite like Iona instead

MrsBadger · 02/09/2009 19:22

both sound suspiciously made up to me, I'm afraid, even though they're not

are they ethnic?

in many typefaces and handwriting styles the uppercase i and the lowercase L look the same so she will constantly be called Lola.

MrsBadger · 02/09/2009 19:23

oh and is it pronouced Eye-Oh-La or Yo-La?

GrendelsMum · 02/09/2009 19:25

I like them both.

dogofpoints · 02/09/2009 19:25

don't like either

SpawnChorus · 02/09/2009 19:27

Assuming they are pronounced Ah-LIE-na and eye-OH-la I like them.

NorkilyChallenged · 02/09/2009 19:28

I don't like Iola I'm afraid (not sure why as I do like Iona). Think Iola does look like Lola or like you've missed the start off Viola.

Alina - I knew a really nice girl called Alina. She was Alessandra (Italian family) but known as Alina.

notevenamousie · 02/09/2009 19:28

Think Iola is unusual outside Wales - I worked for a terrifying femal boss called Iola which has coloured it for me. Alina is ok. Any others?

southernbelle77 · 02/09/2009 20:01

Thanks! DH doesn't really like them it seems so probably not, but he does like Ione (eye-oh-nee) - any better or worse?!

Prefer Alina. I also know an Ayla, which I think is lovely and kind of similar.

kitsmummy · 02/09/2009 21:41

Umm, Iola always makes me think of Areola, and I don't really like Alina either.
I do however like Ione!

bellissima · 02/09/2009 22:01

DD2 (6) has named our new goldfish Alina - have just asked why (she is wide awake I'm afraid - will never get her up for school when it starts) and she says its from 'Barbie Fairytopia'.

Iona - island off Scotland? - stronghold of early celtic Christianity? (I think)

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/09/2009 22:03

Alina quite common in Eastern Europe (pronounced A-LEE-na). How about Adina?

choosyfloosy · 02/09/2009 22:05

Yours are nice but I think Ione is incredibly beautiful, and I prefer Aline as well, except that I think it would be pronounced wrongly. A problem with a lot of beautiful names - I think Renee is heartbreakingly lovely but Ree-nee is just not bearable.

NadiaWadia · 03/09/2009 00:47

Nice. Bit different.

mathanxiety · 03/09/2009 04:58

Alina is Russian, I think. (Al-EE-na)

diddl · 03/09/2009 07:23

Ione
Alina
Iona

TwoPersephone · 03/09/2009 16:55

I quite like Alina
