What do you think of Ursula as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

It's unusual... i went to school with one and that's the only one i've ever known.

Can't say i'm overly keen.

Sea monster from The Little Mermaid so NO!

MrsKitty · 31/08/2009 11:00

I quite like it actually, but it also makes me think of bears Was there an Ursula Bear character in a book or something?

MrsKitty · 31/08/2009 11:01

AH, and now that I look at the mumsnet namefinder it actually means "she-bear" so I'm not completely bonkers after all

indiechick · 31/08/2009 11:06

Love it, love it, love it. Sula (pronounced soola) for short.

cece · 31/08/2009 11:30

Quite nice, we did consider Una for DC3 but he was a boy!

MrsVik · 31/08/2009 11:31

I was just saying to my OH the other day that I think this name is quite cool. It's not often you get a woman's name which has a meaning associated with such strength.

It's definitely unusual and a bit exotic sounding.

MamaLazarou · 31/08/2009 12:09

It's a wonderful name. More people should use it.

ninedragons · 31/08/2009 12:11

DD came out with a head full of fuzzy thick black hair and she looked so much like a little bear I wanted to call her Ursula.

DH vetoed it. Shame.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 31/08/2009 12:14

I like it, makes me think of Ursula Le Guin.

ohnelly · 31/08/2009 12:15

Dont like it sorry

ThingOne · 31/08/2009 12:17

Noooo.

justbeenforapromenade · 31/08/2009 15:50

OK but as it means bear - not my favourite.

carelesswhispers · 31/08/2009 15:53

i went to school with an ursula , she was horrible & a bully ,

terracehouse · 31/08/2009 17:41

The German shortening of Ursula, Uschi (pronounced "Oo'shi") is cute, too.
