Frances. Iris is becoming too popular.

mustrunmore · 01/09/2009 09:32

Iris.
(Is it really getting popular? I havent come across any lately)

Feierabend · 01/09/2009 09:34

I see it suggested all the time on these name threads, no?

lumnag · 01/09/2009 21:51

Frances is a truly beautiful name. Underused, meaningful and cultured.

Don't understand why it is so rare.

Iris is nice.

Horton · 01/09/2009 22:08

Frances is lovely. Iris is nice but a bit over-used IMO.

crankytwanky · 01/09/2009 22:17

Iris.

But really, wait and see!

jemart · 01/09/2009 22:24

Either, possibly both? no reason why you couldn't have several middle names.

bess23 · 02/09/2009 11:33

Really dislike Frances sorry but like iris.

boundarybabe · 04/09/2009 14:53

My mum's a Frances. I quite like it but it'll get shortened to Fran, bear that in mind.

silver18 · 05/09/2009 10:54

Ineresting!!! Seems Iris most popular but when I posted last month Frances was overwhelming favourite. Think I'll just wait until baby's here. 2 weeks to go!

Have middle names for frances sorted not so sure about iris -
Iris Olivia
Iris Elizabeth
Iris Francesca

Iris is getting a bit ubiquitous. It's a prettier name than Ruby, for example, but it's reaching that kind of level of popularity.

Frances is classical and pretty. I don't agree that it will get shortened, unless you shorten it. People don't tend to give other people's children pet forms of names if their parents don't use them - it's over familiar. If they do, ask them not to!
