Baby Josiah has arrived! We will shorten his name to either Jos or Joss. Any thoughts about which spelling is better and why appreciated. Thanks.

Congrats!!

I prefer Jos from the two. I associate Joss more with a girl name.

Enjoy this time with your new baby

I think of Jos/Joss as short for Jocelyn.
Why will you shorten?

belgo · 28/08/2009 08:31

Jos. (Prefer Joe though. Congratulations!

Agree with rasputin - Josiah is beautiful, why would you want to tinker with it?

Let him decide what he wants to be called when he's older - he will, anyway, and will probably be something different to the abbreviation you give!

Agree with MrsVik, I think of Jos for boys and Joss for girls. Great name btw, and congrats on the new arrival

bethoo · 28/08/2009 11:18

i like JOsiah the way it is but will prob get shortened to Jos anyway!

diddl · 28/08/2009 14:21

I´d be tempted to Joe.

hulabula · 28/08/2009 17:44

I definately wouldn't shorten Josiah - its a lovely name that rolls off tongue easily.

Jos/Joss sounds very feminine imo.

Joe seems a little boring/common imo.

So, I'd just stick with Josiah - beautiful name!

Tinfoil · 28/08/2009 23:40

I would pronounce Jos as Joz. So would prefer Joss, pronounced Joss.

MamaLazarou · 29/08/2009 14:22

Won't people just call him Joe?
