Zhuzhi is short for Zhuzhanna, isn't it? It's basically Susie short for Susanna?

MrsBadger · 24/08/2009 18:16

thans alex - this one
so like the si in television

'Zhuzhie'

nope, still sounds awful

Susanna / Susie is lovely

jkklpu · 24/08/2009 19:49

Call her Susia. If you have any Hungarian connections, at least call her Zsuzsanna and Zsuzsi for short. But what on earth is wrong with Susanna? You could have a family nn of Zhu-Zhi (phonetic).

Ponders · 24/08/2009 19:52

I would have guessed zhuzhi (like the sound in ZseZse)

so as Juji would sound in French?

Buda · 24/08/2009 19:52

If you have no Hungarian links then don't do it. As others have pointed out it is hard to get the pronunciation right. And I have been here in Budapest for 5 years!

jkklpu · 24/08/2009 19:52

oops, sorry, meant call her SusiE

Ponders · 24/08/2009 19:53

(if Juji was a French name!)

Nightmare for someone living in the UK. She'd have to spell her name everywhere every time for the rest of her life.

Horton · 24/08/2009 20:37

It's a very sweet name but everyone she meets in her whole life will assume that

a) her name is pronounced Susie

and

b) her parents either can't spell or think themselves terribly original

Don't do it!

DaddyJ · 24/08/2009 23:58

Gorgeous name, and I know some really lovely Zsuzsanas. Yes, they are all Hungarian.
If you have any kind of link to Hungary, go for it.

MrsBadger · 25/08/2009 08:59

at a slight tangent, how about Georgia? Georgiana?

Hersetta · 25/08/2009 11:59

Isn't that the name of Zoe Zebra's twin baby sisters in peppa Pig......

I'll get my coat.

Mumcentreplus · 25/08/2009 12:19

Sounds like a car...sorry

GirlsAreLoud · 25/08/2009 12:20

Is this the name of the daughter in it's a wonderful life? or similar anyway

Kwini · 25/08/2009 19:45

MrsB, Georgia's lovely but it doesn't mean anything to me - I'm choosing from a list of names with some personal/family significant, so am not really looking for suggestions, thanks!

(It's also way too popular for my taste - I have an unusual name and would love my child to have one, too!)

OP posts:
Kwini · 25/08/2009 19:45

Pronounciation would be Zoo-zee, btw

Kwini · 25/08/2009 19:46

Paolosgirl · 26/08/2009 08:09

If you're looking for an unusual name, then don't pick one that sounds so much like Susie.

Kwini · 26/08/2009 13:04

Aye aye, cap'n! That's me told

OP posts:
Buda · 26/08/2009 14:11

If you like the name Zoo-Zee then why not use Zuzi. Zsuzsi is not quite Zoo-Zee really.

Kwini · 26/08/2009 14:17

Good suggestion, Buda - we might go with that!

UndomesticatedGoddess · 30/08/2009 19:53

I think it's lovely.

It reminds me of the little girl in It's a Wonderful Life which is my favourite film ever. It's not exactly the same but it made me smile to think of it.

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/08/2009 19:57

I have a cousin called Zsuzsana. She has always, always, been called Susan. Her sister's name has been similarly anglicised. Their brother is called Gary.

(They are half Hungarian and half German.)
