As a middle name? Quite like it (apart from Harry Potter connection) Prbably first name would be Christina or Josephine

was going to mention the harry potter connection..

but then you can choose a name that suddenly becomes associated with someone famous - we know a real life harry potter in his thirties.. god how he loathes jk rowling

Greensleeves · 13/08/2009 17:09

it means sorrow though

hocuspontas · 13/08/2009 17:10

First impression - the name of women who advertise in phone booths.

sorry but just can't get the thought of the evil old witch from HP out of my head

boodleboot · 13/08/2009 17:39

i really don't like it, i know a Dolores but she uses Dee instead and doesn't like Dolores....i love Dolly as a NN tho which you wouldn't have with it being a middle name.

mathanxiety · 14/08/2009 23:28

I sort of associate it with Stab City too, not necessarily Dolores O'Riordan, but the general atmosphere of Limerick back in the seventies. It was very popular many years ago in Ireland (Maria Dolores means Mary of the Sorrows in Latin) and it kind of irks me that someone would call a girl that or identify with women who put up with a lot (hence the Sorrows). I know it's one of the titles of Mary (ref Jesus), but it's a sort of old-fashioned virtue that is very gender-specific, to bear sorrows and not complain IMHO.

My DH has an auntie Dolores. She often gets called Lori. She as mad as a Hatter and definatly all Irish ha ha

MamaLazarou · 17/08/2009 08:33

I have never seen or read Harry Potter, so Dolores for me means the singer from the Cranberries, or the character of Lolita from Nabokov's book. It's a nice name, with pretty diminutives, IMO.

qumquat · 18/08/2009 16:07

I agree with Mathanxiety that I don;t really like the connotations, but it's nice sounding and would go well with your first names, especially Christina (which I love!)

moondog · 18/08/2009 16:09

It's nice.

PuppyMonkey · 18/08/2009 16:17

Sounds bleddy awful to me. The name of a 70s prostitute or something. Soz.

Ondine · 18/08/2009 16:40

I like it a lot, enough to consider using it one day. My first associate would always be Our Lady of the Sorrows.

It's very grown up and elegant imo. I'd like to be called it myself actually.

Disenchanted3 · 18/08/2009 16:41

Umbridge.

Old lady.

Not good for a baby.

Rachiesparrow · 19/08/2009 10:38

I love it. Our cat is called it (Dolly for short) and I really seriously wondered for a while whether I could get away with having a cat AND and a child called Dolores. My OH said no though. So we are thinking of calling our daughter Kitty instead. Short for Catherine, so not completely bonkers in a cat/child confusion type way.

Tortington · 19/08/2009 10:39

i like it as a first name

Iwantscallops · 19/08/2009 13:55

Love it! And definately sounds great as a first name.

heartonsleeve · 19/08/2009 13:59

Sister Act?

JeanLouiseFinch · 24/08/2009 00:51

Dolores makes me think of Kathy Bates

hambler · 24/08/2009 00:57

love it

crotchet · 24/08/2009 10:44

Call me Dolores, like they do in the stories.... very Dylan Thomas!

BonsoirAnna · 24/08/2009 10:45

Really awful!

Amapoleon · 24/08/2009 10:47

I'm not really keen on it but I live in Spain and there are lots of old ladies called Dolores. It is shortened to Lola in Spain.

TiggerIsEisCat · 24/08/2009 10:58

as a person with this middle name i wholeheartedly say NO DONT DO IT!!!!
