Gertrude?

DH and I love the name Gertrude, but my mum said she thinks it's awful - I said that lots of Victorian names are coming back, but mum says 'Yes, but only nice ones'. Come on, be honest - is it really an awful name? It would be Trudi for short.

I like it and it makes me think of Gertrude Stein, which is a good thing, imo!

The Gertrude I know is also German and spells it Gertrud. I think I would avoid it because of the Dirty Gertie thing, and she would get it from 'adults' as well as children. Sometimes names die out for a reason.

no it not a nice sounding name how about greta.

I really don't like it. DDs friend has it as a middle name and told me all the kids (not DD) laugh about it. It's always the kids with the old fashioned middle names who get teased.

Not for me either.

Is Mabel really on the endangered names list? I know 2 little Mabels.

We met 3 little ones on holiday once called Bertie, Gertie & Jemima (B&G were twins)

Not keen at all, sounds like a witch's name. Like Trudy spelled with a y.
