I'm 33 weeks and I'm finding that not knowing what we're going to call the baby is making me feel really unsettled (actually we don't know the sex, but I want to have a name decided for each sex). For some reason I'm drawn towards names beginning with A. Top of my list is Astrid (but DH worried about the whole Ass thing...) I also like Anna, Anneka, Anya and have just started thinking about Anita. What do people think? Please feel free to suggest other A names.

KleineMaus - Astrid is my middle name and it's never been associated with 'ass'.

Adrienne
Anthea
Anneke
Anne
Annabelle
Adele
Abigail

I love Ingrid and an alternative to Astrid.

Sorry not keen on Anita, makes me think of an 80s woman with lots of hairspray and makeup on for some strange reason?!

Never heard of Aine, but Aina is very common in Catalunya and is pretty.

Ariadna is also popular here

Aoife
Anais
Alana
Andromache?

Loving the reference to Abigails Party

Aine is a beautiful name as is Aisling pronounced Ash-ling...but being of Irish stock I would favour them

Anthea makes me think of Anthea Turner, and I'm sure it would be the same for many people in the UK.

My great aunt was called Anita (youngest of 11). My DGGM apparently said that it stood for "^after not intending to again"

watsthestory - the person you knew was awful NOT the name. The reason I'm huffy is that it's my name and I really think a beautiful one. hopes I'm not the* Aine watsthestory knows)

Aoife is gorgeous (and my sisters name)

Aisling - Ash-leen
Ailbhe - Ail-va
Aoibheann - Aveen

All lovely!

ha ha, very good bleh, she kept her sense of humour despite 11 kids. No mean feat.

It's weird that I didn't think instantly of Anthea Turner, but I know one in real life. It's a lovely name if you can push squeaky out of your head.

Anita is a wonderful name.

I recently met a two year old Anita (on holiday).

She was so cute I have come home loving the name.

mathanxiety · 17/08/2009 03:05

Anita is a bit old fashioned, but not in a good way, like Betty and Gladys, imo. I like Astrid, pity your DH doesn't. Agnetha? But then I love Abba... How about Annika? Angelica? Anastatia/Anastasia? Ana? Ava? I once met a 7 year old girl named Arden, which I loved. Is there a forest of Arden somewhere, or is it in a book? I didn't immediately think of Elizabeth Arden -- that brand name doesn't jump out at you like Chanel or Dior.

Sorry, you are looking for boys' names too -- Aidan, Anthony, Alexander, Andrew, Asa?

Vikelm · 17/08/2009 06:10

Ainslie? Amanda? Athena?
