Hi

After extensive input from MN jury, out of Alice, Sofia, Isabel and Julia I was certain Julia was the name.

Baby not here yet, but.. I'm starting to worry it's a bit common and middle-aged -no offence to any Julias, I really like it but is it OK for a baby?

Definitely It's actually really popular over here in the Netherlands ATM.

Go for it, 'tis a lovely, classic name!

sockmonster · 10/08/2009 19:55

I would like to think it's a classic name, but would I sound ridiculous in the playground calling it out? Would she hate me?

Is this pregnant hormonal madness talking>!?

thanks

Julia is a lovely name, both for a child and when she's grown up! Some names I can't envisage as a grown up

Lizzylou · 10/08/2009 20:01

I like Julia, nice name and I don't know of any.
Unusual without being wacky.

StinkyFart · 10/08/2009 20:01

Julia is a lovely name

sockmonster · 10/08/2009 20:02

Thanks for reassurance, don't feel you have to be nice. I'm kind of loving the name norktasticninja actually

Only you can know if you'd feel ridiculous calling it in the playground but TBH I suspect it's hormones I think almost everyone goes through a phase of hating their name, it rarely lasts. It's a good name and certainly a classic!

Lia a shortening that's often used here, if that's of any interest...

calaminecovered · 10/08/2009 20:03

It's a beautiful name - wish I could have persuaded dh that for my now 8 month old dd!

norktasticninja · 10/08/2009 20:04

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/08/2009 20:06

I love it. I know a 3 year old Julia and I honestly don't think its remotely middle aged Definitely the best of your choices imho

GossipMonger · 10/08/2009 20:07

A beautiful name and very underused!

Works well as a baby and a little girl and as an adult.

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 10/08/2009 20:09

Aww, I love this name. But then I have known lots of lovely Julias!!

Lia is a nice "pet" name. I love names that are versatile!

Amazing to hear it's so underused in the UK, here it was the third most popular name in the first half of 2009 and the second most popular last year. I had to take it off the list when I found out. I wasn't happy. Luckily the baby turned out to be a boy anyway

MaggieBelleVirgo · 10/08/2009 20:14

I like it, but I love Juliet.

boodleboot · 10/08/2009 20:14

nice. i have a cousin julia who puts me of slightly but not enough to not like the name....she is Julia Daisy which i think is a lovely set of names....i personally prefer Juliet.

mawbroon · 10/08/2009 20:17

I am a Julia, and I never once as a child (or since) wished I was called something else.

belindarose · 11/08/2009 11:03

I love it too. Top of the list for our baby girl due tomorrow.

cthea · 11/08/2009 11:06

Julia is lovely. I had Iulia (pr. kind of Youlya) on shortlist. We called her Sylvia in the end.

Joolsiam · 11/08/2009 11:07

I am a Julia and have always been happy with the name

I know 3 others of my age (approaching 40) but none younger. However, although biased, I don't think it is a name that has aged or sounds dated.

As you can see, I get called Jools but I love Lia - never thought of that one and it is really pretty - just perfect for a little one

Joolsiam · 11/08/2009 11:08

Oh, and the one thing I hate, loathe and detest is being called Julie - got into trouble at school for refusing to answer to that !

5inthebed · 11/08/2009 11:08

I know a Julia, and she is one of the nicest people I know. Pretty name

SilverStuddedBlue · 11/08/2009 14:09

Julia/Juliette, top of my list if a DD#2 ever happens. Just sound so lovely out loud. And will always sound right for any stage of life.

midnightexpress · 11/08/2009 14:14

I love it. Sounds very classy.

qumquat · 11/08/2009 14:20

Julia is a beautfiul name, perfect for any age!
