baby brother for Daniel

Expecting DS2 in October and DH and I really cannot agree on a name or we have problems with the names we pick!

DS1 is called Daniel James, we call him Dan alot and I quite like the idea of a name that can be shortened, but it doesn't HAVE to be.

Shortlist so far is;

Toby - I like this DH not too keen
Samuel - sounds similar to Daniel does it matter or would it sound stupid? We do both like it & can shorten to Sam which we love
James - this is the only suggestion DH will give, it was his first choice for DS1, I do really like it but is DS1 middle name?
Joseph - I like but friend just given birth to baby & called it (we hadn't discussed names)may use as middle name
Ryan
Benjamin - would be my 1st choice but again a friend has called their baby this name!

We like quite ordinary traditional names, nothing too adventurous! I just want a good strong classic name, that hopefully won't sound too silly with Daniel.

Thinking of a name is keeping me awake at night, and I don't know if the things that concern me are that important or if I'm hormonal! Please help...

DP has a half brother called Daniel James who has a half brother on the other side called Luke. Think they go quite well together.

Samuel and Daniel are fine as siblings I think. Not too alike.

GrimmaTheNome · 06/08/2009 12:09

David ?

jellybeans · 06/08/2009 12:14

Toby -OK
Samuel - I think it sounds abit too simelar esp Dan and Sam.
James - bit boring and already your DS middle name, I wouldn't do it.
Joseph - great name, depends how close your friend is.
Ryan-great name
Benjamin -I like Ben on it's own, fine name though.

I also was going to suggest Luke. I also like...

Jacob/Jake
Zachary/Zac
Alex
Ross
Lewis
Joel
Peter
Michael
Adam
Aaron
Aidan
Nic holas
Isaac
Nathan
Kieron

I know a Dan with brother Andrew - Drew for short.

arolf · 06/08/2009 12:40

I know someone with twins called Samuel and Daniel - the names work well together

LouMacca · 06/08/2009 13:14

My DS is Daniel George. If my DD had been a girl we would have chosen from the following.

Joseph
Benjamin
Samuel
Harry
Thomas

also like Adam and James

I think there are quite a few old posts about sibling names to go with Daniel.

gladders · 06/08/2009 13:14

personally wouldn't put Dan together with Sam...

Daniel and Matthew?
daniel and oliver?
Daniel and Jake?

TwoHot · 06/08/2009 17:28

Matthey, Dan and Matt would be good mates as well as brothers

Matthew I meant!

Or

Dan and Ed
Dan and John

Benjamin is nice or you could use Benedict ,which also shortens to Ben but is more unusual.
Edward is lovely too.
But you can definitely re-use James; it will be lovely that your boys are "linked" I think.
Matthew is also lovely, so is Sam. haha good luck with this!

weegiemum · 06/08/2009 18:29

My dnephew1 is Daniel (known as Dan) - in fact he is Daniel James!

His wee bro, Dnephew2, is Jacob, known as Jake, or jakey.

BottySpottom · 06/08/2009 22:10

I love all the names mentioned on here as we too like traditional friendly sounding unpretentious names.

Dan and Oliver (Ollie)
Dan and Joseph
Dan and Alexander (Alex)
Dan and Charles (Charlie)
Dan and Lucas
Dan and Joshua
